Short term pessimism is tempered by long term optimism.

We have an exceptional infrastructure, growing global presence and a significant fan base. We’re ripe for investment from a wealthy company looking to raise their profile by creating a football powerhouse. Equally, if this is too fantastical, Enic will not want to see us slip beyond the top four for a sustained amount of time. By building one of the world’s greatest stadiums, they’ve essentially committed themselves to seeing us become a top four club with aspirations to mount title challenges when opportunities and circumstances enable this to happen.

Of course, this is Tottenham we’re taking about so any absurd outcome is possible

Ancient Indian burial ground discovered under NFL pitch is my guess. Rip down stadium

Think I peaked on the optimism front in this last decade. Feels like we’re on a decline. Having flirted with the league and Champions League is a League Cup going to satisfy the hunger anymore? It’s not all about us getting better. It’s ‘are there still other better teams getting better?’ and scooping up all the major silverware.

It’d serve as a very filling starter imo. We barely flirted with the league and wasn’t good enough to get the job done ( mental fragility which is still very much there, hence why Eriksen will never make the grade at the elite level clubs, as good as he is, mentally he is weak )
Champions League was a freak run. Sometimes it happens in football. We should have been remembered as one of the freaky winners but the mental weakness done for that and we rolled over meekly in Madrid.

Not confirmed but...

Im sceptical. That is a speculative article from 2018 and one of its core premises (no transfer spending) has been blown out the water by our summer spending.

Every investment is for sale at the right price but I don’t see any evidence to support the assertion ENIC are actively looking to sell.

We might have a short term bump from mourinho If he sorts this side out but I fear we won't have top 4 consistency like the last 5 years.

What I am optimistic about is however that I will be going to a lot more spurs games this decade and enjoy the matchday experience with our fantastic stadium so for me that overrides a slightly less certain next decade in terms of success!! COYS!

Love a day out in Tottenham. Even more so we'll have a proper train service to WHL station next season which adds to my optimism of attending matches

After having droughts such as this then I think you need to appreciate any trophy we actually do win.

We’re fucked for a few years and theres not much Jose could do about it. Levy’s had his say. We’re not going to recover quickly after 18 months of zero incomings before only signing 3. Certain players are on the decline(and rapidly at that) yet because we’re stupid, we already gave one a new contract and are probably going to give another the same treatment. Also its been 5 years and now that he’s leaving it only magnifies things. We still cannot play one iota of football without Eriksen and we didnt bother to look for a back up for 3 years and now a replacement in the last few windows because as said previously, we are a very stupid football club.

All in all, we’re fucked for 3-4 years but, provided we get the right manager after jose inevitably gets sick of levy’s shit, the team gets sick of jose’s shit, and jose starts spouting off in the press, and actually back that manager(fat chance), we’ll be okay

New owners. A couple of cups along the way. Match day experience to deteriorate even further.

I do wonder whether we'll have to do what Liverpool did and sell one of our best players for a ridiculous amount of money, and bring in 2 or 3 quality players.

That said, I don't really trust our recruiters so we'd probably balls it up

No we don't have to. What we need to do is sign a starting XI player every season plus 2 quality youngsters (bought or promoted). This is how we progress, however, we need to fill in the gaps at full back before doing that

Levy and poch fucked up massively by not adding to the squad because we was punching above our weight they were blissfully ignorant that the squad needs continually being refreshed, and instead allowed the club to come to the mess we have today requiring significant investment and time.

A little bit of luck in big moments would be nice.

1) lasagne in the noughties - how often has that happened to other clubs in crucial moment?

2) Finishing 4th and missing out on CL because chelsea got the luckiest CL final win ever. How many times has that happened?

3) A very dubious and quite frankly incorrect penalty decision after 28 f'n seconds in a Champiosn league final, totally ruining our strategy for the game. How often has that happened to other teams?

We badly need some good luck in massive moments and not in a run of the mill game.

It will be. But history will show this team to be on the same level as ‘99 and ‘08. That’s hard to accept after expectations were considerably raised. And we haven’t even got to that yet.

I must admit I'm pessimistic purely because if we couldn't win anything with Poch's team at their peak, a team with one of the most prolific scorers in English history, the most solid Spurs defence I've ever seen and the likes of Son, Lloris, Dembele, Alli etc all at their best, what more do we have to do? I hope i'm wrong but how do our chances get better than that?

Selected the short term pessimist option but I don't think that is a genuinely pessimistic viewpoint. The squad clearly needs a rebuild but with the infrastructure we have in place I think this should be achievable in the relatively short term allowing to push on again in two or so years.

I’m actually quite optimistic about the next decade at Spurs. All the off pitch infrastructure is now in place and in the case of the new stadium, generating a ton of money which means we should be able to compete on a more equal footing for quality players.

We had a purple streak with regard to finding decent players at low cost .. Eriksen, Alli, Dembele, Vertonghen, Aldeweireld, Dier and Walker were all top draw from 15-18, when we should have gone all out to grow from this great base. History shows we didn't and recruitment since, with the odd exception has been poor and infrequent. Consequence of this strategy / plan is now there for us all to see.

Son can’t make the team of the decade but Eric Dier can?

Me thinks someone is tailoring this to suit their argument...

Not even taking in to account that Tottenham team of the decade doesn’t include Gareth Bale or Luka Modric?
Must try harder?
It's as if they only started watching Tottenham once Poch took over!
