Half of your post could have been written when Soldado was here. I don't doubt Janssen's effort, work rate and attitude but like a Man Ure team without Zlatan, we are toothless up front in terms of the main striker.

The poster is not slagging off his performance today, but reflecting on his overall game this season. All new players take time to settle in, Lamela, Son, Wanyama, Eriksen, to name a few but all have shown during that learning curve some glimpses of why they were signed.

I have seen not one thing from Janssen so far that would even suggest even to the most avid Spurs fan that he will come good. In fact he appears to me to be a carbon copy of Soldado who for my money was more effective.

Janssen is more physical and better suited to the English game than soldado

From memory he had zero attempts on goal, and though we changed formation and were a goal up in the second half, Son made an immediate impact.

With fifteen goals this season Son simply has to start while Harry is out, it's a no brainer, simple choice for Poch.

I remember 2 clear shots on target from Jannsen that the keeper struggled with and almost parried into danger?

He did and he also showed good awareness laying the ball off to Davies for a shot. He played well today, I don't know why people are trying to discredit him, we all want him to be a success right?

We were in control, and Lloris made no save of note all game.

The second half had everything to do with the change in system and zero to do with the appearance of Sissoko. To suggest that he made any difference to proceedings, or influence on the result is pure fantasy. I would dearly love to see him progress but in fairness just who should be dropped to make way for him?

I think you've overstated a couple of times there, but broadly I agree. Nothing you wrote contradicts anything I wrote - if you read my post carefully, instead of concluding that it was primarily about Sissoko. It wasn't. It was about teams winning matches and individual performances having more to them than what a player does with the ball.

The change in system was the main thing, indeed, but I have noticed something about Janssen that I think is causing quite a bit of his misery. Many people have observed that he holds the ball up very effectively. But what he has so far been unable to do, at least against Premiership defences, is to turn with the ball when he has a defender on him. His hold-up play consists of ... holding the ball up. He doesn't get his head up and lay it off to an onrushing teammate, nor does he spin with the ball at his feet and snap off a shot. Even 5'-7" Jermain Defoe can do that and Janssen is a pretty hefty unit. So it isn't a lack of strength, it's more a lack of awareness of what is around him,

Janssen did have a couple of shots on target today (a reply to another post of yours). He's had quite a few over the season that have been saved. But when he's in the box, being defended, he has so far been unable to get any advantage over his defender. All he does is to hang onto the ball ... until he loses it. He needs to have that area of his game coached heavily this off-season, if he's going to crack it in the Premiership. Turning the defender and shooting, getting his head up and making controlled lay-offs.

Wanyama? Really? He hit the ground running in my opinion. If you really think that, then that statement discredits the rest of your post

Not surprising, mate. Once you see oxygen being given, hosp. is usually on the cards.

Still sucks cock though. He's gonna be gutted and we'll miss him.

He's going to hospital to get gutted you say? Oh fuck :arghh:

1. Little mention of Walker I think shows how impressive this team performance was
2. Dembeles roll of the ball and turn away from Defour, in the second half, before being taken out by Barnes was ballet-like beauty

Just me or is it odd we're not second on motd? Know it's merseyside derby but feels odd that you don't follow the leader losing with 2nd cutting the gap

Maybe just me

Agree that it's odd...not that it's just you.

The Palace and Spurs wins were the major talking points of today's matches, even on the BBC website.

It's taking me quite some time to get used to this being Spurs. Away to tough northern side with impenetrable home record, lose 2 key players just before half time -- this is surely heading for inevitable disaster? No we smoothly change formation and proceed to boss the game and see out a comfortable victory with the minimum of fuss. Who are these impostors? What exactly does this 'Pochettino' think he's doing?

Some good observstions David, it will be intetesting to see what Poch does with Janssen in the Summer especially if we make the CL.

I'm not going to go back through countless threads but he was far from being praised during his first games, many stating that Bentaleb was a better player.
