Never understood the love for Neville. 3/4 of what you hear from him is a producer in his ear / pre worked out stats. The other 25pc may be his opinion and that’s where the UTD bias comes out. His one and only attempt at management was a disaster.

as for carragher, he’s just a tw.t that if sky had a set off balls would be working for radio Mersey.
If you can't appreciate his analytical mind or that he's not afraid to rattle a few cages, then what must you think of the rest of the pathetic pundits we get offered up. Yes, the constant United focus is grating, but the club's been his life, so I get it.

There's a big difference between last season's Liverpool or peak United playing badly and grinding out a 1-0, most of the games like that they'll still create a handful of big chances. Either theire strikers aren't firing or the keepers having a blinder. Like I said, good result, but we need to create more to win those kind of tough, niggly games consistently.

I don't think there are many other games in the entire season that are as physical as playing Burnley at their gaff.

They sort of drag you down to their level a bit, constantly going long, bypassing midfield a lot of the time.

That's the sort of result Fergie's united would of ground out in similar fashion.

They played well last night, but they've got one point all season so let's not make them out to be Atletico Madrid or something.

No, but they'll take plenty of points off our rivals playing like that.

Let's see how Chelsea do this weekend.

Neville absolutely slated Man U while he was watching them collapse against us, and after the game too. I think he is ready to criticise them when its appropriate.
I find Carragher very hard to listen to, I always think that he speaks like hes trying to hold a goldfish in his mouth at the same time.

I think there’s a lot of revisionism going on in here as I keep reading comments saying that we wouldn’t have ground that result out before Jose. There are countless times that that exact comment was made during Poch tenure so maybe let’s all take a breather and not get too carried away just yet. The season is only 6 games old.

Again I disagree with you dn, respectfully of course ;)
Liverpool had their struggles last season and the season before, with their forward line stifled and few decent chances registered. It's just that these games are easily forgotten as they're not the type of match you reminisce on, you just want to scrub it from your memory.

There are very few teams around that are as accomplished as Burnley at killing a game for the spectator. They've struggled early doors, but last night was close to peak Burnley.

Funnily enough, this week has seen more than a few teams up their defensive game. It's almost like every manager woke up on Saturday and said "Oh right, NOW I remember what a defender is supposed to do."

Apart from Dean Smith that is...

I distinctly remember late in the second half, Davies playing a simple ball behind Sissoko, which went straight a Burnley midfielder, who fortunately shot wide of the mark. Davies looked good at Centre Half against shite opposition last Thursday in the Ropa Dopa, but as a full back, seriously lacks the attacking abilities that a wing back should provide. More Reggy moving forward please Jose. Game was slightly nerve racking throughout, but Burnley will always do that to teams playing in their manner. A fully deserved 3 points gained last night. COYS.

Anyone complaining about the style of play last night ought to remember that Jose picked Davies and Sissoko because of the opposition as he wanted to counter their strength and height, Sissoko for picking up the 2nd balls and Davies to deal with the crosses to the far post. In an ideal world he would have played Reguilon and Lo Celso and whilst we would have looked better going forward we would have been more vulnerable at the back and our achilles heel exposed once again.

So I'm not reading much into that game in terms of performance or style, at the end of the day we got the 3 points against a notoriously tough opponent which is all that we can ask for, what actually excites me more is the clean sheet and the fact that we have a manager who can identify and counter our opponents strengths.

Exactly. We picked a side to counteract their main strength and it worked. Job done.

I think we'll see the free flowing football next Sunday against Brighton who arnt as physical as Burnley and like to get the ball down and play.

And without their organiser and leader, Dunk, I'd expect us to bag a few goals in this one.

Let's hope both of Hugo's arms are pointing in the right direction at the end of this one...

Of course when we had the best team in the league based on a 36 months rolling average, during that period there were times when we worked hard for a 1-0 win. But we didn't necessarily do that then in such a composed and organised way as yesterday.

Ifs and buts. I'm sure other teams can say similar.

Give over. Any other season that pen isn't given and my post points to the fact that bar two incredibly fortuitous events (the pen and lanzinis walk off home run) our form is very very good.

I'm not denying that our form isn't good. I'm simply stating that every single team in the league can also point to a match where they dropped points or a dodgy decision that went against them and say 'if only'.

We sure won ugly tonight, a speciality of Mourinho's style. We were very lucky not to concede, great defending by Kane,, he has become a defender a provider and still a striker. A great all-round player. Our defence looked much stronger tonight except for Dier's error that nearly led to losing possession in a difficult position. Dier should have cleared the ball, however, we got an handball and got away with it . Great go up to fift position and the scum shit go down to eleventh.

We weren't lucky. We worked hard as a team to achieve a well deserved 3 points in the prem. This wasn't luck. We earned this victory.

The most gratifying thing for me (other than the three points of course) was how we played after we went one up. We shut up shop, knocked the ball around, didn't look to create just hold possession. I think, after the clean sheet last week, to follow up with another in the premiership against a difficult team who put three brutes up front for the last few mins was a big mental step after the Newcastle and West Ham games.

I've just watched the last 20 minutes again and it confirmed my impression at the time that the goal was coming but more than that following the goal we totally owned that ball, I'd be interested to see possession stats for the last 15 minutes but they'll show massively in our favour.
Burnley had two corners both from rather hopeful punts upfield to forwards to win a corner and both times Hugo claimed it with ease.
Credit where it's due we did not hang on we coasted home, a really good performance to see it out.
