Relieved Bentelab isn't starting after his horror show last week. I'm willing to give Dier a chance and see how it goes. You have to trust Poch sees something in him for the that position.

Not sure what more we expect?

Poch hasnt exactly got much to work with. And i can understand Dier playing. Stoke are physical and good in the air. Dier will protect us. We always complain that when we lose to these sorts of teams at home and the reason why is that we get hit on the break.

All good teams have a solid base. Build that first then worry about the attack.

However, I hope Njie and Berahino arent they only attackers coming in. I feel we need one more with pace. We have some nice technical players but they dont exactly have a huge impact on games.

No pace, no width, no exciting youngsters (bar HK obvs).

Like the guy, but Poch really could use a set of balls with some of these team selections. Look at Reece Oxford.
exactly hes all hype, the stats tell a total different story, don't give kids a chance at all.

What about him? I would've had Rose for Davies and Alli for Dier but apart from that, what's the problem?

Why are people complaining about a lack of creativity and a lack of width when those are basically the sorts of problems we've been trying to fix this window.

No shit, we still have the same problems because we've only signed one attacking player.

I really think if we're going to improve from last season, Lamela must come good and become one of, if not our best player in the squad. He can't do that from the bench though. I don't want to see him used in Europa matches predominantly. It's a total waste of the player who created more assists and clear cut chances as anyone in the team.
He is going to be mainly a sub I think, been plenty of time for Lamela to come good, I am not holding my breath that he will.

Fuck me there really are a lot of miserable sods on this site.

Let's first lose 3-0 before we go in to meltdown mode and kick the shit out of Poch

Mason and Dier is a Championship pairing.

In fact, it may even be the worst in the league..... possible except for Bournemouth.

Tell me again where we finished last year with Mason & Bentaleb being our main position. Im sure we didnt get relegated

He didn't have a preseason, neither did Pritchard and N'Jie doesn't have clearance yet. We have options to spice up our attacking game that just aren't quite ready but I think we'll see them integrated over the next few weeks.

As for midfield, people can complain all they want about Dier and Mason in midfield but we have no points on the board against a Stoke side that beat us twice last year and are going to come out confident and commit men forward. We need to win the battle in there and the likes of Eriksen and Dembele are going to have to step up creatively.

There's a huge difference between Lamela and those other two, though. Lamela was training most of the summer with the best players in the world at the Copa America. Pritchard was mostly injured and N'Jie has been hurt several weeks, too, so there exclusion makes far more sense to me. Mason, frankly, had arguably less of a pre-season than Lamela and he actually is coming off an injury, yet he's starting today.

Dier, Bentaleb, Mason, Kane. Gave debuts to Winks and Onomah.
Bentaleb and Kane were already playing, Mason is hardly a kid and the debuts of a couple of pointless minutes in nothing game are hardly noteworthy for Winks and Onomah, when he starts one or brings them on with more than 15minutes to go then get back to me. don't expect it any time soon.

I would really wanted to see Trippier vs. an opponent like Stoke. I'm almost gobsmacked he is not starting.

Agree with you. Walker may have had a decent game,by his standards, against man U but what threat does he have going forward? An attacking full back who can cross well is a must in Poch's system. Walker can run fast but 99% of the time does naff all with it, as well as the fact he always makes mindless decisions in every match. Trippier is a much better option.

I agree to an extent, but lets not pretend that either were awe inspiring. Both (Mason in particular) gave away a few of the most ridiculous goals I've seen in recent years.
