Thing is from our perspective Andre is brilliant and highly coveted by all. From Barcelona's perspective, maybe, he's Mourinho's old sidekick who fucked up the only big job he ever had.

Of course we know best, but I doubt he fits the bill for many Barca fans.

That's what I'm curious about. Only a couple of ITK's came out and said that we were, it also wasn't all over the media. I have no doubt that we were interested, but I reckon as soon as a price was quoted and they were not going to budge, we just said fair enough

This is in line with the so called "lock down". Was there any ITK on Paulinho before it was all over the media? I think (hope) we are keeping our cards a little closer to the chest.

Good old hindsight. I suppose we should have tied Messi down to a 20 year contract when he was 10 too.

It's got nothing to do with hindsight. Everyone, literally everyone, was saying we needed a striker in the January window and quite a few were saying it in the summer one too. Wether or not buying one would have actually made the required difference we'll never know.

I think we dodged a bullet here.. Benteke is good, really good and really would like to see a CF added but 25-28m£? Insane. For that kind of money I would like to see a more established forward. Van Persie cost what 25m£ although in the last year of contract, Soldado 20-25m£(?), Negredo went for roughly 30m£ and Jovetic also. So to pay that kind of money for a guy who haven't played in europe, one season premiership and regurlaly asking for transfers, I think the asking price is little too much.

Well how about buying him last fucking year.

Lets take a gamble on an up and coming striker or two.

Was hoping for Benteke especially after hearing from ITKs that it was pretty much in the bag - guess it gives everyone a bit of a reality check about reliability of info. Looking back, POTL and BEN never mentioned either Benteke or the croatian lads as being almost done so that speaks volumes.

The reason they didn't mention Benteke is because they are not as close to what is going on as others. It has been rumbling on all week.
Now I will update you more soon with why DL wouldn't pay up but I haven't heard the full story yet.

Could be Soldado or Remy now.
We are in for Bernard in a big way now too as well which is pleasing.

It's not like benteke was a nobody last summer either. He was belgium's number one choice at centre forward. Any scouting of him would have seen that he would have done will in the premier league. He probably surpassed all of villa's expectations though.

Just a thought here. Maybe the Benteke deal was a deliberate leak to people, so to the sources of ITKs who said about Benteke. Maybe we're going after players under the radar?

That or Benteke just wanted a new improved contract, while we were linked it was easier to use us as the club. So perhaps we used it as our own smokescreen to these sources and we're looking at unknown targets.

Remy would be a good signing IMO, perfect for a 433 but is he an upgrade on what we already have? (Based on his performances last season).

Really hope one of the reasons we didn't spend £20m on Teke is because we are spending it on Bernard!

I for one would still be extremely satisfied with bringing in Bernard for LF and keeping Ade as our main CF. I think he tried last season under impossible conditions. Out of form, no pre-season, questions about ACN and almost no doubt about PTSD after that accident a few years back, and all the speculations about wether or not he should even participate in the ACN play this year.

I would love us to buy a young, rather unproven, Baldini-type of striker to supplement and start European games though.

That would still be a great window for me actually!

So amongst all of South America and Europe, Remy is at the top of our list.

How utterly underwhelming.

What is the point of Baldini and our scouting network if the best we can come up with is bloody Remy.

We're finding gems of players all over the park. Bar uptop. Our scouting for strikers over the last few years is nothing short of embarrassing.
