My guess is because we’re not really after both. It’s just one we’re looking to get.

I think it's more down to if we're going to get one of them first, and then the other after some outgoings then it makes sense to try your best to get the most expensive player first. (Tapsoba)

If you then need to rely on outgoings to get VDV over the line, it's a much easier task to accomplish.

And as I say, I don’t think we’re after both. We’re after one CB, imo. Maybe 2 if Kane goes.

As far as I know (which may well be much less accurate than info from other ITKs), the situation hasn’t changed. Tapsoba’s price is closer to, but not yet at, our ceiling. The van de Ven deal is ready to be finalized. Possible, but not probable to do both until an outgoing or two.
To me this means we probably won’t have significant news for at least a week, as outgoings (as mentioned before) will only happen once Ange has had a look. Which he is busy doing. So all toy throwing is on hold.

Everything crossed. 2 new CBs and some outgoings and i'd feel a hell of a lot better for the forthcoming season. Any half measures at CB and its same old
It really does change things
Worth remembering that we were 5th highest scorers last season with 70
But we conceded 63 which was 5th worst defence

so if we are able to improve the defence (and it’s personnel as much as systems ofc) then we can expect to climb the table again

(and keep Kane of course)

Assuming the selling team or the player himself isn't pissed off by the delay and walked away from the deal.

Every ITK going has said we are after 2 CB’s?

I think as a club we know it’s the weakest area. If we are as it seems making slow progress on Tapsoba why would we not continue to try to get it over the line?

We realistically can’t sign a second till we get bodies out the door.

100%, I was talking from a purely financial perspective.
Financially that makes sense but from a team building perspective where you are looking for particular strengths it doesnt or more realistically it might not.
How long, is long enough to wait?
If for instance we have Van De Ven on the hook for 30mil but keep waiting and waiting. 3 weeks later, with no movement and no concrete decision on our part,if Brighton (they're in the market for a CB) as an example, make an acceptable offer to the club and also the same to the player in quick time. He is obviously going to feel they want him more and that may be enough to sway him to join them over waiting on the never never for us.

Might a delay in pushing button on a new CB be associated in throwing a new recruit into a work-in-progress football philosophy/play shift? Team has played turgid, negative, Conservative football now for circa 5 years. Surely will take time for the existing crop to adapt and thus might be better holding off on any new introductions at the back until this style change has progressed with some semblance of refinement?

see todays match thread. New defenders are a necessity not a luxury

After today's friendly it's clear we need the 2 CBs. Levy needs to get cracking so that Ange can start integrating the CB (s) into the squad asap.

Yea we need to wrap a CB quick, Chelsea will be entering the CB market now with Fofana tearing his ACL and don't need them trying to hijack/ drive the price up

Aaaah, today's game. It was riddled with ITK. Surely, players must have been running around wearing signs on their kit saying 'psssst!' on one side and 'We need this or that player' on reverse to prompt all this.

We no longer get rid of the thread, that punishes sensible people. Now, we renew it and get rid of the idiots who can't comprehend.
