This seems a lot closer than it seemed to be the first time? Do we agree or is it wishful thinking?

I think it was as close as it could possibly get first time around (or at least the reporting suggested that was the case). He was 1/25 at one stage. You’d like to think that we wouldn’t allow ourselves to get publicly suckered in like this if it wasn’t a done deal, but who knows with us nowadays?

Something beautifully ironic in that we're all dodging work to sit in this thread and slagging off all those work dodgers at the club. :angelic:

Like many people on here, I find it hard to believe that Jose and Nuno set our teams up to be as bad as they were, getting even fundamental basics wrong, and suspect that we have a lot of players who are simply tactically inept.

I guess we'll soon find out!
This.

If it’s Conte it’s exciting whether you support it or not.

He is a genuine current world class manager and winner. He has gravitas in his personality as well and won’t take any shit.

Also it will be interesting to see how we set up. Between his 2 favoured systems 352 and 343 each would mean very different outcomes for the current squad.
We have more depth for wide forwards than CM’s so 343 but our WF’s beyond Son are arguably our weakest position so 352 ?‍♂️

would PEH, Dele and Ndombele suit his system?

which CB’s would work best?

so many questions!
Two questions isn't so many questions.

Daniel absolutely has to resist his natural impulse to fuck the managers around and give them bargain basement alternatives to their real targets. He can't treat Conte the way he treated Redknapp in January 2012, or AVB with Moutinho, or Poch with practically every player Poch ever wanted outside of summer 2019, or Jose with Skriniar, or Nuno with Traore. Levy's standard m.o. will have Conte walking out and salting the Earth as he goes. Levy has to turn the keys to recruitment over to Paratici or this will end in tears.

Personally still fully expecting this to all be ballsed up by Levy insisting Conte buys his own pen to sign the contract because 'my club are not made of pens'.

There is plenty of talent in this squad, more than enough to get top 4 in my opinion, but without the right attitude from the players, the talent means nothing. If Conte is the guy to instill/inspire the right attitude and get the results we need, then that is fine by me regardless of how we play.
Only with Spurs bias glasses on. Our squad is nowhere near the quality that Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U, Man C have.

Man U kept Sancho, Rashford, Greenwood, Lingard, Martial, Pogba, De Beek in reserve at the weekend.

By comparison we had Ndombele, Dele, Bergwijn (1 goal in 51 apps), Scarlet (17 years old) and Gil (injured)

I am kind of glad we still have the Traore money now, so long as they spend it in January for Conte.

Guys, all this talk of Conte, but no-one's mentioned his first name...?! Classic Levy, he's only gone and secured the services of Dave Conte from Buntingford Cougars on a 7-year deal. Tight.

Odd to be talking about a world class manager coming to this club and to still feel indifferent.

The players need a rocket up their arses and I am sure he will come and do that. I don't think he will pander to the players so I can see some players getting upset pretty quickly - it is then down to them in terms of how they deal with it.

He will definitely drill the players and get them fit and working for each other. We will see a style of play and an ability to react to in game situations.

What I don't see working is an 18 month contract. Just screams to me of Levy not committing to a revolution. Additionally, I just don't see how we have given Conte assurance that there will be opportunities to invest in the squad which is already bloated enough. Feels like we need to get some players off the books first.....

Yeah this is very true.

Compared with all our previous managers, Conte is the only one who would literally storm out and straight up quit, whereas all of the others just got on with it, despite the broken promises.

Conte might be the only manager mad enough to make Levy stick to his word.

I agree, that particular decision looks good now. But the broader trend of Levy refusing to back his managers will absolutely blow up in his face this time around. Conte is extremely demanding and he won't accept Levy's normal fuckery.

I know that Paratici has his doubters but to be fair he must have had to do some work here to even convince Conte to fly over let alone sign. I'm pretty certain that Conte didn't have to manage Doherty, Winks and Bergwin on his bucket list

Sorry bud- I saw your name and thought Krule was back for a minute
That would have put an extra layer on these proceedings.
Really interesting developments and for the first time in ages I'm refreshing these forum pages excited about what might be happening
