I’m not bothered about the financial implications of terminating Doherty’s contract - could have maybe sold for a fee eventually, but are now saving on wages to a surplus player, so whatever.

The fact we got to this position, however - where we have so many surplus players we can’t even loan them anymore - is utterly, utterly farcical.
Financially it probably made sense... Considering his contract length after the loan, his wages for the remainder of that contract, and what we would be able to sell him for at that point.

What’s funny is a forum of work-shirking transfer-fanatic football fans didn’t know anything about this either. Yet it’s OH MY GOD THIS IS THE MOST OBVIOUS THING EVER.

Yeah it’s not great - or at least not presented well - but I’d like to consider myself well informed on this sort of stuff and had no clue about it.

I certainly didn’t know about this rule.

But, I do know about the relevant rules, laws and parameters when it comes to performing the job I’m actually paid for.

I would expect football club directors to be across their own remit in the same way.

You have to give the board credit for finding new ways to balls up the transfer window.

I don't think anyone had "accidentally giving away a player" on their deadline day clusterfuck bingo card.

How did Doherty go from being needed to a terminated contract in one month? Surely at the beginning of January or when we wanted Porro we knew Doherty could have been offered asking for a few £mil?

I swear to god there are some people on here who could find Daniel Levy shagging their wives and say 'oh well it's not easy to find your own wife in the current climate'.

On a more serious note this culture of excuses which comes from the top of the club is the reason we will never win anything with the current ownership.
Really fucking grating.....and boring.

If you are still signed up to them, then you get all you deserve.

It’s not my duty to study rules!!! Of course Im not.
Of course you’re not what? I’m not saying you’ve let yourself down by not knowing something. This is a forum that finds out flight details of people trying to join the club. That pours over and over who can and can’t play in the Champions League. Who is homegrown etc.

So yeah, there’s a big focus on here generally on what can and can’t be done.

So it’s interesting that it’s never come up before now. To me.

Also it makes ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE TO ANYTHING. Doc was never going to play for us again and arguably wouldn’t have commanded a fee either.

Indeed. Paratici should be fired on the spot for the shambles of Doherty today.
It is literally his job to know the bloody rules.
Will be amazed if he lasts the week (both for this and the situation in Italy now window is over)
Not sure we would fire him now and have to pay some money. Best to wait until he is banned and we can sack him for nothing.

Quite ironic that we were haggling for days over 3 million euros on the Porro deal, only to literally give away an international player with 18 months left on his contract due to our total incompetence.
Levy all over. penny wise, and pound foolish

I am not one to defend the club but people are losing their shit on a supposed massive fuck-up with no evidence to back this up?
Isn't announcing a loan with specifically no obligation to buy then later that very day panicking at deadline and terminating said player's contract evidence enough?

Hardly takes Columbo to figure that one out.

Equally there are those who only have to read that Levy sneezed and they would blame him for their house falling down.

I'm neither one way or the other inclined, but let's have some balance.

Maybe we’re just tired of the six hours of moaning in this thread, without us having any ITK to cause this moaning. It is, after all, the ITK thread. We have several other threads more appropriate for Enic/Levy/Paratici bashing.
We've had 3 announcements, with no itk at all today.

People are talking about the general announcements here. Also don't forget, the counter arguments are even more off-topic than the first people reacting to the news

But we probably paid up most of his contract anyway from the looks of it, am sure we could have got a couple of mil for him rather than paying him to go

Do you never make mistakes in your job? It's a fairly new rule. When you have decades of experience working without said rule, it's easy to overlook in the heat of the moment.

Agree with everything you’ve written. It still makes us look ridiculous the way this has panned out though

no it’s the fact we were dicking about with sporting for a few million (as we’re led to believe) only to then release a player 2/3 days later for probably more?
That's again an assumption that we were dicking around. I don't know the terms of the deal, however it was widely reported that the release clause had to be paid as a lump sum.
