Whatever the combination of CBs we bring in. Remember a couple of things. A £50m player will be paid in installments. So rarely are we lumping £50m on the debit card. Could be in 2,3,4 differing installments up to eventually paying off the £50m.

But for FFP, that player @ £50m will be accounted for over the life of the contract. Say it's a 5year deal, that's £10m a year on the profit and loss statements. (well done if you did the maths in your head)

What does all this mean?... for FFP we're good. Buying in we amortise the players each year, selling players we have that money immediately! So buying 2x £50m players, doesn't mean we've actually handed over £100m. More like a Direct Debit for a part of each one.

Hope this help people to enhance their calm, when others are shouting 'spend the money' or 'same old Levy'.
Thats all correct with paying in installments. But then again you have old transfers you pay in installments. Probably we still pay Lyon for Tanguy, Everton for Richy and others.

Don't think it's a financial reason more covering different bases.
That is good to hear then and sounds like we have a well aligned plan this time around if its not a financial reason why we can't go for both.

VDV and Tapsoba both very good players and with good potential so if Ange thinks one of them in to partner Romero and then bring in a Tosin or Lenglet and he can 'coach-up' one other current CB then maybe that is ok for now, although our defence was the biggest issue last season, we conceded 65+ goals so for me I'd like us to sign both of them or at least not just one and Lenglet i'd like it, if it is only going to be one of them then we sign say Tosin as well as Lenglet but Ange will know how best to manage the puzzle, maybe he will like the profile of for example Tanganga etc as a 4th choice 'coached-up' option we shall see.

Buy cheap, buy twice

CBs have been a problem for 3+ years. We should buy the £80m option and then focus on clearing decks to re-coup money. For example, if the rumour of Ndombele being offered £20m is true bite their hand off

Or if you're Chelsea buy expensive, buy thrice :grumpy:

Although defence is a big problem I do feel that 1 quality CB and the keeper will make a big difference. I'm more concerned with getting Tapsoba than both but happy with VdV if it's not possible. Goals conceded last season was largely down to post Conte where we shipped a lot. Prior to that it wasn't so bad. We need a 2nd CB but it's not the end of the world if they're not the level of VdV. We did fine under Poch with Sanchez and Foyth as back ups. Its crucial we get that first choice at the best level possible.

It's nothing to do with cost. Cheap doesn't mean worse. If the cost of Tapsoba and VdV were swapped would people think VdV is the better option? After all our better signings have been the less expensive ones.
