The counterpoint is an investment now to secure top 4 would mean in the summer we'd be looking at the top tier of signings (and we have a LOT of squad rebuilding to do). If we're not in CL, it sets us back massively and we need to gamble on lower tier players turning out well.
So spot on Rob. We are always reactionary rather than proactive. As you say if we’ve left ourselves a bit short again (CB&AM short imo) and we don’t get top4 it’ll make this summer even harder and cost us more money and set us back, we are always chasing our tail so to speak.

Happy with Porro & Danjuma as individual signings and pleasantly surprised we actually signed Porro a top top RWB to address our huge weakness there but loaning Gil out means we are short at AM unless Lucas is ok and we really could’ve done with a top CB coming in.

Anyways big thanks to all the staff on here and ITK’s etc for a rollercoaster ? of a transfer window. And here’s to hopefully a fun successful 2nd half of the season.

COYS.

I hear what you're saying but Arsenal didnt get champions league and outspent us. We wont do it regardless of where we finish because the priority is not winning. Top four makes very little difference if we are serious
Totally agree with this. We were sold the lies about UCL , but Chelsea & others have proven time & time again it’s not what pulls.
Prem money is worth more these days. We should be way past that by now.

Can someone tell me what Conte's main signings were for this window? Not who we think or demand, but who he wanted?

I don't think we have covered all the areas we needed (unless we sign some last minute deals) but I think CB can wait until summer. I think RWB and a creative CM were more the ones I wanted. And then with the way son has been, moura not going to be involved and richarlison being injured, the loan in was a good cover also.

Not the window I wanted, but no where near as bad as some make out!

Summer window : goalkeeper, Center back (maybe 2 LCB and RCB) and a center midfielder.

It's not been a disgrace - a 5 or 6 out of ten, but we as fans certainly need to demand more ambition.
Yeah it's actually been quite a while since we've had an absolute disgrace of a window. Most in recent years have been between about a 5 and an 8 out of 10. Some felt like a 9 at the time.

I think our problem isn't a lack of ambition in any given window necessarily - our expenditure over the past 3 years is probably in the top 5% of clubs - it's more dogshit planning that's hurting is.

If you keep chopping and changing managers with different styles and philosophies, making opportunistic 'club signings' that don't fit into the manager's vision, and generally don't have an aligned, long term strategy, you're always going to be a player or two short.

If we hadn't signed 4 failed RBs, we wouldn't need to spend big on Porro. If we hadn't half-arsed it on Rodon, we could've spent more on a top tier CB. If we'd not signed Spence we'd have more money to spend on a keeper.

Over time every compromise, every poorly thought-out or rushed transfer, every minor mistake adds up...and each one needs fixing down the line.

There are definitely occasions where we should've been more brave and spent big on specific players, but I think one of the key reasons we haven't is due to a messy, incoherent squad filled with previous mistakes.

How we end the season will determine how successful this window was or not …

Levys main aim in any window is to spend as little as possible while trying to bullshit the fans he is being ambitious
Initial spend is low. Committed the club to £40m worth of right wing back though; not nothing.

Would have like another on top of Danjuma. Not physically, as that would make Danjuma ineffective. But in terms of an additional player, not located directly on top of another player. Just in case that isn't abundantly clear.

It’s not a disgrace of a window but it is short once again. We’ve made a massive upgrade to one of our weakest areas, and have beefed up the attack. All the eggs have to be in the centre back and goalkeeper market in the summer now though. Simply cannot allow those positions to continue to go unaddressed.
Chelsea have spent over 180m and are massively short in midfield and striker. I'm not sure it's as easy as people make out.

The point on Arsenal is moot. Pieces of the jigsaw take time to come together....but they didn't fuck about and put them together.

They now look like winning the league.

Lenglet not really good enough
Dier not really good enough
Davies not really good enough
Sanchez not really good enough
Tanganga not really good enough

I think we know where we needed strengthening

Seems like Stoof is on top of things here.

If you told me at the start of the window we would've brought in a clear upgrade to our Starting XI and a player that can provide a spark off the bench I'd be pretty happy for a January window. It's certainly not the shambles some are calling it. If this was the summer window sure but some of the expectations are just absurd.

It's not Saha and Nelson ffs

Agreed, but let’s not forget that Emerson/Doherty not good enough and we’ve undoubtedly strengthened there. It’s a big step forward…but all that matters really is how Conte perceives the window. He’s happy I’m happy. He’s unhappy then I’m unhappy.

Problem here is that our expectations are just too low. We needed to invest more and failed once again
