The club are trying to offload Lamela.
Thanks for info Breezer. I thought he would be a stayer. Whoever we bring in needs to be a big improvement now. Not a hopeful for the future as we have plenty of those. Needs to be a first teamed.

Sentiment aside, Lamela hasn’t been good enough. We can’t rely on him with the host of injuries he’s had and doesn’t contribute to enough goals or assists either. With our change in style and shape we could do with getting rid of him and replacing with a real quick attacker

Why would that matter?
It matters because it would be a shame to try to get rid of a player who gives his all to Spurs, love Spurs and does not want to leave Spurs, as oppose to those who just perform enough to get a pay check from Spurs and not seem to give a damn otherwise.

Because it'll make it more difficult to sell him...
If the coach and the club have made it clear to him he’s expendable then what can he do. He’s definitely an obvious one to move on to free up a squad spot.

Cheers for the post. Makes sense. We’re good for numbers at AM/ wing yet we still seem to be watching a few different players for those roles. Someone has to make way and he’s the obvious choice, despite having a great attitude.

Meh. He puts himself about when he gets on. But he’s nowhere near reliable enough fitness wise. And his productivity is undeniably poor for a player in his position. Think he’s very replaceable.

It'll still make it more difficult if he doesn't want to leave though, regardless of how the club regard him.

I imagine another reason is to balance the home grown quota. Lamela out with Eze and/or Brooks in will allow us to bring the number of foreign players down. We then can bring in another for a more required position.

The problem is I don't see many takers.

Id be gutted if this happened :( losing a bit of affinity with the team with the nucleus of our 2017 team leaving. For me its a silly move as if we are to buy an AM id want a starter to replace Lucas or a starting AM. Its difficult to buy a sub that comes on and changes a games tempo like Lamela can... i don't feel our other AM options are very good subs regardless of if they are better starters than Lamela. if we swapped brooks or worse still behrama for Lamela id be upset tbh

I’m sure there was already Itk with the only viable destination being Italy. I love Coco but Jose isn’t here for sentimental reasons. He’s here to win.

I think there'll be takers in Italy but probably a low fee.

Makes sense. High wages, low statistical output in terms of goals and assists and getting on a bit. I can't imagine we'll get much of a fee though.

Would be sad to see him go because he always works hard for the team and seems to be well liked by a lot of the team.

His live Instagram after the Ajax game in the dressing room and out on the pitch will be one of the best memories though which says a lot about his contribution to the club.
