I would agree with most of that, AVB is using the current tour to assess what he needs, so no one knows if Bentley, Jenas and Gio will be part of future plans. I'm really giving Levy and co the benefit of the doubt and hoping they have learned from the Frazier Campbell debacle. They would really be stupid to let that happen again. There is no point getting a shiny new manager and then tying his arms behind his back.

I think out of the signings you listed we will get Ade and either Modric staying and replaced, we may get a keeper as well. Not really expecting a lot of players in because of the way we do transfer business.

Personally I think we'll get Adebayor, and that there's a good chance we'll sign Moutinho. Moutinho has already said he'd like to play for AVB again, and I think it looks like the perfect way for Levy to show his support for his new manager by bringing in a great replacement for Modric.

After that I'd be happy enough if the only other player we got was a decent back-up for Adebayor. If AVB decides to give Bentley, Jenas and/or Gio another chance then I'll trust his judgement.

Agree with a lot of what has been said and I have stated it in other threads too.

Currently we are weaker than last season. Simple fact.(again assuming worst case of no Modric/Piennar and no Ade either)

Gk: No change (though aging players an issue)
Defence: - Ledley and Corluka / + Vertonghen (on paper I would say marginally weaker)
Midfield: - Modric, Krancjar, Piennar / + Sigurddson (much weaker)
Attack: - Adebayour, Saha / + ??

Even if you add Adebayour back in, this is a weaker squad and more importantly a weaker 1st 11 and every Spurs fan SHOULD be worried about this as things stand.

AVB I am sure is a clever tactician and manager, but his new system and high lines etc means we need the right players and to expect a top 4 challenge with as it stands a weakened squad is tantamount to disaster.

In fact i would right now state that with the current squad we will see the same old Tottenham, lose ball too quickly in midfield, resort to wing play via long diagonals, no one to finish moves.

With a high line added to the mix we could be exposed at the back without the firepower up front to balance this out.

The potential is there and a few movements in the transfer market either way and it looks rosier for sure, but right now, if as the OP said the wondow shut with the business done or expected to be done, then we have a right to be nervous.

I really hope you're right about Moutinho, and agree it would show good backing to AVB but unfortuantely I cant see us paying the money required to get him and we'll have to settle for a mediocre and cheaper replacement. Hopefully you're right though!

I would say we may be better than last if were just to sign ade and let modric go

We have also signed Verts and Gylfi with Naughton and Caulker coming back in. As well as having Hudd and Dawson back, we may see fringe players given a chance like the likes of Bentley, Jenas and Gio. As well as having 3 promoted players from the championship in Kane, Carroll and Townsend

Harry didn't rotate and that harmed us at the end, if AVB rotates I see no reason why we cant do better than last season. The only issue I see is up front as it is alot of pressure on Ade to stay fit and score

We won't finish anywhere the top six without, two additional strikers, cover for Lennon & bale, and cover for modric if he stays.

if we didnt sign anyone else....we could get relegated.
I know we have an Iberian coach but we are NOT frickin Spain so we have to buy at least 2 strikers to compete.

We'd slip down to 5th as Chelsea have brought in some class players

Personally, AVB worries me. He has an arrogance and coldness which doesn't suit our club.

I agree with most of the stuff that's been posted

I think we'll be okay as long as we get a couple of strikers in - I'm not massively confident of this however, as we've been in this situation time and time again

Incidentally, if we sell Modric for a big fee there's nothing stopping Porto having us over a barrel for Moutinho. Then it'll be up to Levy to bite the bullet and splash the cash. Will he spend the required amount though? Probably not :(

Unless Kane seriously stepped up this season, which is a big ask, we'd be seriously screwed if we were left with our current striking options lol.

if we sign nobody else we'd have to play bale up front to be honest, im sure he would do a better job in a lone role than JD or harry!

With no Ade or Modric, and no new signings, I think we'd be poo, tbh. Good players, but no team.

Agreed.

What makes it especially interesting though, is that IMO we're only 2 signings away from giving the Manc teams a run for their money - even with Modric gone. We have a quality back 4. We have quality midfielders. Assuming Ade signs, we just need one line-leading CF and one creative spark in midfield, and we'll be as good as anyone.

If we don't make those signings then I'd be concerned that some of our best players may have their heads turned. We need to capitalise on our potential now. I'm sure The General and the rest are very aware of this. Here's hoping eh?

Our best striker at the moment is Gareth Bale,
if we have to go into the season with what we've got I'd play him up front.

AVB is about to learn that Levy loves his last minute deals. This means starting the season with a weak, unbalanced side.

This saw off Jol, Ramos and nearly Harry last year.

Good luck AVB!

I'm sure before signing on, AVB and Levy must have had extensive discussions and understand each other's aspirations and bottom lines. If we don't sign anyone of note this window, it must mean that both have come to the same decision and have a common plan for the future. What I would not like to see is for us to mortgage our future for the sake of making a couple of over-priced buys.

That's how I looked at things the season we qualified for the Champions League yet we've been outspent by the likes of Stoke since. All these notions that Levy and the Board didnt trust Harry with cash etc etc I await with anticipation to see how the club backs AVB...

Surely they must realise even more now that Defoe has had to fly home that we are pretty short in the striker department!

6th at best right now, goals win games, we don't have too many players that can consistently get them.
