...this transfer window, how do you think we'd do next seaon?

There are a couple of scenarios attached to this question too, such as:

Ade signs
Ade doesn't sign

Modric stays
Modric leaves but we get a replacement
Modric leaves and we don't get a replacement

Just be interesting to get people's opinions on our current squad's strength

without at least 1 more striker, we'd be very average.

I'd say we have to have a Modric replacement, 1 wide player and 2 strikers.

Usually Defoe gets a long term injury - six weeks plus - so a first rate striker is mandatory. Without this additional forward Spurs will finish outside the top four at best.

Modric staying will not help dressing room harmony and we will not see the best out of him. He is best gone far away from N17.

For the sake of this I'm assuming that we'll sell Modric and Pienaar and that we haven't signed Adebayor yet.

On that basis there are some very obvious gaps that would leave us pretty exposed squad wise.

Obviously the main area is upfront. We need two strikers who can play with their back to goal and also get a hatful themselves. We currently have none.

In the wide positions we only have Bale and Lennon. Yes GDS may get yet another chance but he will squander it again so we need at least one player and I would say two who can play as a wide forward.

A Modric replacement (as far as that is possible) is a must and depending on how AVB feels about Huddlestone we may also need some further backup in that department.

In goal Friedel and Cuddles could probably get us through another season, but I think we'd all like to see someone a bit younger coming in.

In defence I think we're fine. A bit weak at left back but Vertonghen can supposedly play there and Bale is always an option as well.

So for me, despite all the optimism, there are still quite a few key areas to sort out with less than a month to go before the season starts. Some are more important than others but I feel we are still 5 or 6 players away from having a squad that can challenge at the levels we want to be challenging at.

If the season started with absolutely no further changes then i wouldn't expect anything higher than 6th.

We would be hard to beat but not have enough firepower up front to get more than a goal a game.

However, this is all academic, we have a month, things will change, we will get a couple of forwards in. Optimistic hat on!

Dos Santos can play as a striker so maybe he would be plan B until the Jan window (in the unliekly event we can't sign another striker in this window)

How many times has Dos Santos played as a lone striker #9?

Who said he had to play as a lone striker? I was talking about a make do with what we've got scenario in the unlikely event that we don't sign someone. If that situation does come to pass then I believe we'd play in a formation that suits the existing personnel and not shoehorning players into a particular formation that AVB likes, that might have to wait.

Right now, were in a right mess, unless we switch to a 4-6 and even then I don't think we have the Totti player to make the forward pivot work.

We can survive with what we have in defense, goal and midfield, but we can't go into the season with Defoe and Kane. And even if we get Adebayor, we're still in trouble.

Siggi perhaps?

Don't like the idea of having to fudge something though.

So basically, a disaster scenario?

Well I think with Defoe as our only true prem tested striker (bearing in mind as well, he can only play well for half a season!!) plus Harry Kane who is simply not good enough (in my opinion) and maybe another youngster coming through I think it's pretty much a disaster scenario if we don't sign someone yes.

Utilising another player (like GDS) in the striker role, may lessen that slightly but it's far from ideal

We'd be fine - more than fine - in terms of defence and midfield. Even if we assume Modric is offski. In terms of the strikers though...entire season utterly fucked. Might as well just accept 7th or 8th right now.

Just to add - might as well go all out to win one of the cups. We'd just draw far too many games to seriously challenge the top 5 or 6 over the entire season.

You take Modric and Ade out of that team last year and we'd be lucky to be in Europa places IMO.

Too critical a period to fuck this up (again).

5th.

Newcastle and Liverpool don't have what it takes.

Pardew will reveal his true colours this coming season ( he is crap ) plus they are in Europe and apparently the toon love Europe and want to have a crack at winning a trophy ( have not won a major honour since the 50s...big club my arse! )
Pool need an overhaul on the pitch.
