Whilst I agree, my original point at the start of the thread is mostly..

"What was the sliding doors moment from the Poch era"?

Perhaps I should change the title of the thread slightly.
Sissons and Winks in midfield, a half fit Harry Kane, who never turned up. Leaving Lucas on the bench after scoring a hat trick in the semi.

That finished me.

Nights like tonight are why I made this thread.

I believe everything done or not done has led us to this scenario.

Levy lost sight of what Poch had given us.

The special ingredients that made up a team who were brave and willing to go toe to toe.

Stripped away over time by;
2017 - Signing a mix of poor replacements, selling the wrong players, not selling players who had huge value, not bringing in quality just bargains

2018 - Not investing in the team at all which likely made Poch realise Levy would never back his calls for a rebuild.

2019 - A final chance to make it up to Poch. Looked like he had with the Ndombele transfer but then spent the remainder of the window haggling for Lo Celso and Sessegnon whilst not shifting Eriksen on.

2019 - All that led before led to sacking our most succesful coach of living memory.

2019 - Hiring Jose cause he had an obsession which meant changing the path of the clubs midterm future.

2020 - Signed a mish mash of players not particularly suited to one style.

2021 - Fired Jose but left us with a bloated squad that had little cohesion.

2021 - Not decisive or clear enough to hire the right coach which meant we had to bring in our worst coach in living memory. Also brought in a DOF who is a terible fit.

2021 - Sacked said worst coach and now really backed into a corner. Had to hire Conte to save the situation but sold the soul at the same time.

2022 - Bought another mish mash of players who don't fit one specific system.

2023 - Likely pissed off Conte by not bringing in CBs who could play his system. Eventually he erupts and leaves.

2023 - Has little choice but to give the job to Stellini because all the targets are in jobs.

All this has led us to here now.

We now have 9 games remaining where we look dead as a team and Kane will likely be off.

I don't think hiring a short term coach saves us and I don't think a panic reunion with Poch is wise.

Levy has had plenty of opportunities to change this trajectory.

2017 - He could have got the players Poch wanted - RB, CM and a winger (I recall these being on our list - remember we didn't sign a player until Sanchez in early August.

2018 - Grealish to replace Eriksen. CM again needed addressing. Toby could have been switched. Kane needed back up.

2019 - Should have been the big rebuild window with lots of ins and outs. Final chance under Poch gone

2019 - Should have hired a coach like Poch and done the rebuild.

2021 - Should have gone with Ten Hag or Fonseca.

2021 - Should have hired Rangnick and given him the keys for upheaval.

Every opportunity, he has chosen the wrong option. He could have reversed it at any point.

Instead its taken 4 years or so for him realise Poch was right
