Holtby in Parkers role?

Mostly we've seen holtby play in the VDV role or out on the wings, but I've heard him say his best position is the holding role.

Parker I feel needs to be dropped, he cancels out a lot of the fluidity in our play, could holtby play that role? Or do you reckon he's best in an attacking role?

Er No. Parker is much better there. Parker is not the problem for us. Its lack of wing cover and crap strikers.

Parker hasnt been great lately, he doesnt have the drive and energy of last season. Maybe trying Holtby might not be such a bad shout. He has energy, puts himself about is better at intercepting than Parker, lays the ball off much quicker and incisively.

Really need the beast.

I would've liked to see him play there last night when dempsey came on.. Parker could've done with going of for the rest and we needed to score so he would have helped us build our play up better.

I'm not sure that AVB believes that Holtby is fit enough yet to play in the middle. Although i think Parker is a massive hindrance to our play, and can't understand how he always seems to be further forward that Dembele, he has to continue with him for lack of alternatives. Especially against a very combatative Everton side who play 5 in midfield.

Parker was fantastic last night bar the miss placed pass or two. And the miss obviously but defensively he's good and he works so so hard for the team its great to see.

if your talking about energy and drive then im not sure why we are having a go at Parker, the guy is up and down the pitch and will drive with the ball (something im not sure he should be doing as much as he is)

How many interceptions has Holtby made?
Parker makes a few interceptions a game, and on average is 1 shore per game than Sandro (Same with tackling as well)
But we all know Parker isnt as good as he was, and Sandro would be in if fit.

Maybe bring him on for Parker at somepoint, but i woudnt be replacing Parker just now

This is up there with 'Pavlyuchenko was technically good' as far as nonsense footballing cliches go.

Watching Holtby yesterday made me think he could play in Parker's role.

So i did some statistical digging.

Parker:

Mins played: 90
Tackles: 1/2
Interceptions: 4

Holtby:

Mins played: 79
Tackles: 5/6
Interceptions: 3

Considering Holtby played in a more advanced role than Parker, he still did a better job defensively, in less time too. I see no reason why he cant start ahead of Parker.

Holtby / Dembele / Parker as a midfield 3 could work.

But Dembele and Holtby as a two? God no.

many said the same about Modric and Huddlestone in the middle, and that worked a treat for the brief time it lasted

Its to late in the season to experiment with Holtby as a DM just because he says thats where he wants to play, as far as I know he has not been given that position with Schalke in the past. We have to push on with Parker and Dembele in the middle if we are going to persist with the 442

You don't think Parker lingers on the ball and is slow to pass it? Because he does and is.

He brings a lot of good attributes to the midfield, but incisiveness in attack is not among them. Nor decisiveness either.

Helped when one of them was Modric, and we had Bale and Lennon on the wings. We wont have that for the next few games.

Oh well that's it then isn't it.

He's no slower or lingers more than any of the others.

You can't use a sample that small to say Holtby can play in Parkers role.
