Love Ange and he may have had a reason to bring Skipp on but it was less than obvious why. Having any two (god forbid 3) of Eric, Hojbjerg and Skip in there right now and you are asking for sideways/negative football. PIerre did have moments today but he isn't consistently progressive enough.

Skipp may or may not come good but some seem to forget he is 22 and his first year of first team football was Poch's last year. He then cut his teeth under Jose and Antonio which means that he is playing in an approach that he hasn't played as an adult.

It was a curious decision and i would have much rather had him put Veliz in. We were attacking and getting corners. would be curious to hear if there is any more explanation on it. onwards and upwards with a few sideways and backwards moments

I think your missing my point.

No one is denying Anges progress.

Yes you can demand that we win win win. Is it going to happen? of course not. But set the bar that fucking high And live by it. Let the youngsters see how high they need to aim.

“it’s not the end of the world if we loose some games in a row” - not the end of the world, of course not. But that attitude is not a winning mentality.
I’m really unsure who you’re aiming this at.
we’ve got a manager who literally said his philosophy is to try & win every single game.

Not Ange. It’s a gripe I have with a few fans saying that it’s ok to lose because of this, this and this.

Yeah the attackimg play was sumptuos at times.

Had we finished some of those moves, it would of been the best football Ive seen from any team this season.

But the final ball/finishing let us down.

We need to be patient, it will come togther.

I think we'll have a very strong second half to the season.

But this festive period is going to be tough.

Agree with a lot of that, the football is fantastic, but I’m not entirely convinced that time and patience alone will make up for the first sentence of your post that I highlighted.

We need better attacking players in terms of consistent goal threat and composure in the final third.

At present I would only class Son and Maddison as attacking players in our squad that I trust most of the time to have the required ability to produce consistently. That’s not enough in my view in order to maximise the great attacking football Ange has got us playing, even accounting for the injuries.

It wasn't curious at all, people are looking into the Skipp sub waay too much, GLC has recently come back from injury and barely played minutes for us, he started the game and ran his arse off up until he came off. We needed fresh legs, the whole team looked leggy. Yes, the creativity drop off was big because Skipp is a completely different player, but Skipp did make runs beyond Porro/Kulu when he came on, sometimes you drop a more creative player for a runner, have him make runs off defenders and stretch them and create different spaces and chances.

Lo Celso needed to come off as he was tired and we had very little other options from the bench.

Kinda gobsmacked at the reactions from a number of posters on here.

We were far better than I expected, a much more exciting lineup than Wolves and far better performance. We didn't make the most of our dominance and chances, and were somewhat expectedly caught out at the back.

I was really encouraged by what I saw today. Lo Celso and Gil came in and showed they can be counted on. Bentancur was outstanding before the injury. I think the best bits of today, were the best we've played this season. Got to take the positives.

Would say this is a bit unfair to Deki, who's shown a lot this season.

Just got back home to Warrington after attending the game. I think we played extremely well in the first half considering the players we have available and the philosophy Ange is drumming in to the players is bearing some fruit. We were just a bit wasteful with our final ball, were unlucky with the (correct) offside calls and the Bentancur injury /long pauses for VAR checks/stupid goal conceded before half time crushed all our momentum. 2nd half was a tougher watch at times but we were still very unlucky not to score.

8 times out of 10 we win or at least draw that game - considering the form Villa are in and they have a (mostly) full strength team that shows how far we have come since last season.

We are coming in to a tough section of games and the injuries and suspensions couldn't have come at a worse time. That's not an excuse; its a valid reason as to why we are struggling to win games, But me and my mate are enjoying watching our team, the margins were very fine today......and my Villa supporting mate admitted in a message that they were really fortunate to get 3 points.

Oh, and Matty Cash is a ****.

Patience please everyone. A few astute signings in January and key players back and we are going to be short odds for top 4.

Only real disappointment today was how the game petered out for me , there was no kitchen sink , sustained posession , just felt we ran out of ideas and villa were comfortable at the end .

Exactly

Villa could not deal with us when Bentancur was on the pitch.

Even after that we still got in behind.

Imagine if we turned up at St James park and they had Trippier and Targett at CB.

We would expect to walk through them yet that didn't happen.

And late on Kulusevski was having a bit of a one man show where they couldn't stop him

Good to see MOTD say *nothing* about the elbow on Gil, or the foul on Bentancur.

Did not deserve that today, thought we were excellent at times, Lo Celso, Porro and Kulu were brilliant. If only Son positioned himself a bit better he may have gotten lucky with a couple of the offside calls. Also the move were Johnson slid in and just missed the ball to make it 2-2 would have been a sensational goal.

I think we'll get something from City or Newcastle against the odds.

Sorry, I’m confused… so one of the kids was on the bench? Or we just left space on the bench empty and the guy tweeting is saying it should’ve gone to a youth player?
We only had eight subs, and two of those were keepers. I get that if we put another couple of youngsters on the bench they were never going to get on the field, but it would have been good experience for them just to be involved, and good for the morale of the Academy players as a group.

Doesn’t look like we’re going to have any more players for City so will be interesting to see what Ange does.

Losing at home is fun?
We got absolutely torched by Villa on our home deck last season. That was fucking horrible.

Us slicing through them over and over with 8 first team players not available and a back four of fullbacks was pretty fucking fun to watch because some of us know this isn't about the points right now it's about where we are heading.

Ran out of legs as much as ideas. Match rusty players and no like for like subs on the bench. Gil and Gio were done when taken off, and I also thought Porro in particular looked shattered.

I don’t disagree. Why are you so angry.

Yeah, Son, Gil, Lo Celso in particular put in such a shift, and we ran out of legs in the end. And didn't help that we had so little aerial threat.
