Needing the cash and time to improve their own squad would be the likely answer I'd say. If they sell us Benteke too late in the window to secure new players with the money they get, then they are pretty likely to be relegated next season.

Shame we were not interested or able to do a deal for Mario Gomez, I think Fiorentina got a pretty damn good deal in paying 15million euros for a guy who scored 75 goals in 115apps for Bayern + he's still only 28!

If Villa have caved early then I think Lambert is the reason for it. He's probably told the board that he will not play Benteke if he wants out and will ostracise him from the team like he did Bent. For a commodity like benteke, a year in the reserves would put a huge dent in his value, after all they've lost millions on Bent because Lambert won't play him.

Gomes has always failed on the major stage. Brittle confidence and slow. Not suited to us.

Helenius is far from being a replacement, he needs at least 2 years to become a PL player in my opinion... Maybe he will suprise me, but don't count on it!

I know villa don't want any of our shitter players as part of the deal to get Benteke but I thought lambert quite likes Naughton. Got to be worth £5m and would be decent addition to their squad.

sorry don't like giving out negatives ratings as i think if you disagree with something you should say why but for me this guy whilst having great stats is toilet, misses more chances than he scores and seems to flop in the big games, am sure Bayern won't miss him and think we can do much better for 15mil and no doubt big wages.

Joking aside, it's weird how we interrupted an ITK drought with:

Grey Fox: One or two in, 2 out soon
JJetset/wpd659: Benteke proposal agreed, maybe imminent
Atlantayid: Checkbook open from Lewis
JJetset/Storts: Chadli maybe if we want him

All within a few hours last night. Not casting any aspersions really but that's ITK coming from 5 sources about 3/4 different players & now it's eased off again. IT'S ALMOST AS IF THE CLUB KNOWS IT NEEDS TO KEEP US INTERESTED!
That known it's sad to report that the list of players that 'are coming' is dwarfed by the list of players that 'were coming but now aren't'. YET STILL WE BELIEVE! I do anyway.

We joke about the ebbs and flows of ITK veering between good and bad news & half of us believe all the good stuff, the other half says 'i've seen this before, we'll see at the end of the window'. The stadium rumours come round time and again, the rumours that we've got big money to spend come round time and again, the jokes become tropes: wheelbarrows, warchests, big bids, no strikers, agents, 3rd parties, 'all done' to 'fee not agreed' in the space of hours...

Serious question: are other clubs like this?

Tottenham Hotspur: not just a rollercoaster it's Alton Towers without any queues.

Think I would take the 221 goals in 373 career apps for a few flaps on the major stage, for a guy with "brittle confidence" he seems to score a couple goals, those things we were shit at last year.

Anyway we don't need him for the major stage, we have Bale and Dempsey for that

Yeah I'd probably go with Ade upfront instead of a goalkeeper too.

Or have they really caved in? If you think your want away player is worth around 22m, why not brief the press that you are looking for £25m?

I think we should buy 2 belgium players Benteke and Mirallas. Mirallas come to Everton for about 6M and we could have him for 12-14M a player that can play on both sides and could be a player that we could rotate a bit with and a very good player aswell. And benteke is the first choice for me as striker. 13M for Mirallas and 21M for Benteke. What do you think ?

If they have accepted 20m, it's not too bad considering they paid 7/8m 12 months ago and the player has handed in an official transfer request and has said he only wants to sign for us.

I actually thought 18m plus add-ons was where it would be if it happened at all.

Miralllas has the odd good game/moment but not consistent enough for me.
