Darren Bent statement 31/07/09

I appreciate that transfers are seldom straightforward and are often complex. However, after a long period of waiting following my withdrawal from the plane to China, I had become incredibly frustrated by the time these things take and I posted inappropriate comments on my Twitter site.
I allowed my emotions to get in the way of my better judgement. I regret my actions and did not intend to offend Daniel Levy or anyone with the nature or the content of my posting.

Are we also going to get an apology from DAniel Levy for his inappropriate comments to Bent? Seriously I am amazed, I assumed the site had been hacked into - can't believe he was so reckless, especially as the site was already being reported in the press. I assume it was after a few too mnay pints. You couldn't make it up could you?

I hope that he gets not a penny of any pay off he might be due, he has acted wholly unprofessionally and is a complete !*@*! for how he's behaved.

ssn itk andy burton: spoken to Darren Bent. frustrated with situation, as twitter page made patently obvious. only wants sunderland of available clubs. time as a spurs player will come to an end this summer. question is what now? clubs got pretty close to deal, hence coming off the plane. then things changed and couldnt quite get over the finish line. stoke would like the opportunity to talk to him. darren has to sit and wait. regrets what he did. continued talks over the coming days between spurs and clubs who want to sign him.

well that told us nothing then, other than the SAFC ITK about Bent coming off the plane being just a bluff was a load of balls.

Bent isn't the first player to publicly burn bridges in an attempt to get a transfer from his club but I think he may be the first to do it using the internet so perhaps he could be considered a pioneer.
I still it was unwise particularly to include Hull and Stoke in his rant.

I feel sorry for Bent :-(

I don't feel sorry for Bent.

He's earning more in a week than most people earn in a year, and he'll either be at a new club by the end of the transfer window or still trying to prove to 'Arry that he's a better finisher than the gaffer's missus.

That said, if the mackem ITK is correct, ie that Levy had him hauled off the plane to China in an empty and melodramatic charade, then Bent wouldn't be human if he didn't feel he's been treated like a commodity.

But then, modern footballers are commodities.

They're assets on balance sheets. (Well, some of them anyway.)

They nearly all have some parastic spiv agent making a lucrative living from representing them, and negotiating their contracts. ("Leave it to me, Dazza, I'll do the deal. You just stroll off and amuse yourself. And stay the fuck away from Twitter, OK!")

And chairmen from Ashley to Levy, coaches from Wenger to Redknapp, owners from Frankie Shinawatra to the Glazers, all want to buy and sell them on their own terms.

Darren Bent, like every professional footballer, is a commodity.

However he's much better paid than most other footballers, and much richer than the vast majority of people in the world.

Unless he's about to become the global face of Amnesty International, and start campaigning for freedom from oppression around the globe, he needs to get on with it.

Pretty funny to call him a pioneer...I guess he'll now appear in the history books next to the Wright Brothers. Reason...twittering the chairman senseless.

The drama never stops with this club.

why failing sorry for him

first, when we sacked him, he was on of those players didn't feel sorry for the manager ... yes it was bad record but it was bad to say the manager didn't talk to me enough and you now that his English poor.

then, why he is feeling sorry for Sorry for the way Levy treated Sunderland, and he didn't feel sorry for us when they treated us very poorly in jan. , yes Redknapp was wrong to discuss Downing & several players in media but he didn't that with Jones, they quickly lunched attack on Levy just because he called their chairman about his intersted, i really remember Quinn words ''What they do think about their-selves ?'' .. i really don't know what's wrong with that !!
yes, i know that jan. Jones story wasn't up to Bent, but he needs to know that every club would like the best offer, Charlton asked unrealistic price for him and we paid that .. so he needs to be patient... so he needs to let these rifts between clubs, not that poor statement.

otherwise, i just hope he isn't fined .. an apologize is enough, every human do mistakes.

I feel sorry for Bent. Top scorer with limited appearances last season.

The man has been a twat for using twitter but I for one want him to stay as he is is a goalscorer (not a pointy shounty player) who always puts in the mileage on a match day.

Eh? Puts in the mileage? Is that (a) what we want? (b) even true?
