SSN show DB holed up in some Brumm hotel waiting for his agent's nod that the bid has been accepted! Sat there in a grey pullover looking fairly glum.

Some journos on Twitter are speculating that the bid could be up to £24m - that's going beyond crazy talk now.

I personally still rate Bent. I think he did a good job for us on days when our other strikers simply didn't deliver. Even now I'd take him above Pavlyuchenko and Keane.

Good luck to the bloke. Fine by me if Villa get ripped off a bit!

Sunderland fan here.

I've got to say when I initially heard the news I was quite disappointed, but looking at the offer and the way he has performed and his general attitude over the last few weeks, we would be crazy to turn it down.

His goal scoring record is excellent and we'll struggle to replace that but he is nowhere near the quality of Drogba/Rooney and his all round play is pretty poor. He is as weak as piss at times (losing 60/40 challenges etc).

Does that sound familiar?

By all accounts his agent has been pushing the club for a wage rise to 90k+ for the last 12 months, which we have refused to meet but Villa are prepared to pay.

I have a feeling if he goes for that fee, he will struggle to deal with the high price tag and expectations.

We'll see..

I haven't followed his exploits at Sunderland closely but his goal scoring ratio is immense.

At Tottenham, most of us felt that he was never right for the team. Brought in to replace Defoe as third choice to Berbatov and Keane, thing is Defoe didn't leave until some time later and Bent got almost no game time when he was new at the club.

Then, almost by accident, we replaced the sulky bulgarian with a russian who turned out to be a bit crap so Bent got to be first choice. He did score goals but he looked out of place. We asked him to play kind of a hold up role which he hated and even when he did score, three goals against some polish side?, the crowds were singing for Defoe. Who was at Pompey.

We sold him as a kind of a broken striker, 5th choice to Defoe, Keane, Pavlyuchenko and Harry's wife. You paid good money for him and he got to build up his reputation again. We don't know the whole story but it seems weak of him to leave in january with Sunderland doing so well in the league.

He is a good goalscorer, but I wouldn't want him anywhere near the club again.

I think Gyan is the better player myself and Welbeck looks very useful but will probably go back to Manu. I can't say I miss DB here and I got the impression he didn't celebrate to keenly at yours when Gyan was scoring.

Hello Dwayne

Sounds very familiar, except with us he didnt score as many as what he has for you, but i think its down to the fact he wasnt our number 1 penalty taker.

He was a dogs dinner at times really didnt suit players like modric and when berbatov played with him they were on a completly different wave length. Now your club is moving into the higher ends of the league taking that money will be worth it, gyan has more class and skill and if you can snatch wellbeck then thats good. I think maybe even give owen a little spell and he would work wonders despite him previously being a geordie.

You could always spend all your money on pav and crouch and keane im sure we wouldnt mind :)

thats my thoughts on him almost exactly.

he's weak minded, and a very limited footballer. Yes he scores goals, but he does fuck all else and for 1 dont like that.

Now apparently chelsea are in for him?!?!?! HAHAHA

I can’t believe Villa would pay so much money for Bent. He’s clearly got a good goal scoring record but he also has so many flaws and limitations in his game. They must be really fearful of the drop, which is amazing to think when you consider how well they done the last few years.

Shame they weren’t willing to back MON with this kind of money when they were 6th and pushing for CL.

I'm probably in a minority here, but I really liked Bent and was disappointed that our fans never took him to their hearts. It's a shame for Sunderland if he leaves, because whatever else he lacks, he will always score goals. If Gyan gets crocked, where will their goals come from? And I would also lay money on him scoring enough to keep Villa safe.

That's impossible to say at the moment until hes actually sold and if he is a replacement is found. Also hes scored 5 goals this season from open play...so im not sure thats too difficult to replace.

18-24million for Sunderland would be excellent business and could get them 2/3 decent players.

they will sell bent, we get 4 mil. then they will use 10 mil to bid for pav, or 18 to bid for pav and keane..then we get 22 mil in total..man...maybe its time to lay off the crack..

I could actually see Sunderland bidding for Keane if Bent leaves. It'd be a decent move for both Sunderland and Keane.

I went on to the AV official site to check out more, and they have a page with fan comments. Some of them are hilarious... didn't know anyone could get that excited about Darren Bent!

It's interesting to remember all that fuss from Sunderland, when Bent conspired to be sold at a "fair price". We probably got our money back in the end- hope the likes fo transfermarket.com amend their figures accordingly. Amazing fee for Villa.

So we could get 4m from the sell on fee for Bent, plus sell keane to Sunderland for top dollar? Brilliant.
