The 7 not to make it will be Dawson, Warnock, A.Johnson, Huddlestone, Parker, Wright-Phillips and Bent.

I think its pretty obvious. Capello seems to love Walcott, althought I think SWP is clearly the better player. Upson and Carrick have much more International experience so will be picked ahead of Daws and Hudd respectively.

But anyone who thinks Capello is only going to pick 22 is even more stupid

Question is does he take another attacking option or does he take one of Upson/Dawson who didn't play at all in the 2 games? Defence looks pretty thin considering Terry was holding his leg, Rio is coming back from injury and looks ropey and Ledders is Ledders. I think he'll take another defender.

I'm so confident we bring the trophy home, I say only take 22!

Er...either that or a choice between Upson or Adam Johnson

Heskey is definitely going. You can tell Capello is taking him and gave him a few minutes today simply for game time.

I think Huddlestone, Dawson, Warnock, Wright-Phillips, Johnson, Bent & Parker are staying

any1 watch the "Capello Decides" ssn special? it was basically 3 spurs boys (mullery, mabbutt, and francis talking about who will make the final 23 and who will be in the 11 against usa. the general feeling was that dawson, warnock, hudd, parker, swp and bent were staying home. mulley suggested that walcott shud stay home and swp shud go

first 11 was:

------------------Green/James------------------
Johnson-------Ferdinand---Terry------------Cole
-------------------Barry/King-------------------
Lennon-------------Lampard--------------Gerrard
-------------Heskey/Crouch--Rooney------------

Players to miss out: Dawson, Warnock, Parker, Huddlestone, Bent, SWP, Johnson.

The first 5 pretty definite, maybe, maybe Carrick instead of Huddlestone, but I think J Cole will get the nod and the likes of Upson and Heskey will go because they have been around the setup for longer, although they shouldnt be going because they are crap.

3 reasons, all of them against Croatia. He is shit though, isn't he?

Yep and that hat trick was 2 years ago against a weakened Croatian team down to 10 men. He's done sweet FA since and can't even get into the Arse team! Though it seems that the sun still shines out of his arse with some pundits and Capello :-|

From Football365:

THE SQUAD WE THINK CAPELLO WILL CHOOSE:
Green, Hart, James; Glen Johnson, Ashley Cole, Baines, Carragher, King, Terry, Ferdinand; Barry, Carrick, Lampard, Gerrard, Milner, Lennon, Walcott, Joe Cole, Adam Johnson; Heskey, Crouch, Defoe, Rooney.

AND FOR THE RECORD, THE 23 WE WOULD CHOOSE:
Green, Hart, James; Glen Johnson, Ashley Cole, Baines, Carragher, King, Terry, Ferdinand, Dawson; Barry, Huddlestone, Lampard, Gerrard, Milner, Lennon, Joe Cole, Adam Johnson; Heskey, Crouch, Defoe, Rooney.

They would take all our boys...

There's a few straight decisions to make for Capello. Does he choose the player in form or the player that he feels helped us get to the World Cup in the first place? My feeling is that Capello will go with the latter. I think most of us would go with the former.

The various decisions are:
Centre-back: Upson or Dawson
Upson appeared regularly during the qualifiers but has had an iffy season for West Ham. Dawson was superb on the run in towards the Champions League. Capello will choose Upson. I would choose Dawson.

Left-back: Baines or Warnock
Fabio seems to prefer Baines. I think I'd go with Warnock.

Wide midfield: 3 from Milner, Lennon, Walcott, Wright-Phillips and Adam Johnson
I've put these in as 3 from 5, as the fourth wide-midfield spot will probably be taken by Gerrard who regularly appeared on the left during qualification. Of the players above I think Capello will choose Milner, Lennon and Walcott. Walcott has been poor this season - he really hasn't generated an end product. Adam Johnson had a fine end to the season. I'd take him over Walcott.

Holding midfield: 2 from Barry, Carrick, Huddlestone and Parker
Barry is a shoo-in as long as he is fit. Of the other three I think Capello will take Carrick due to his greater experience even though he was a bit off the pace last year. I would probably take Huddlestone even though I think there's little to choose between him and Parker in terms of form. I just think Hudd offers something a bit different to our other central midfield options.

Up front: 4 from Rooney, Crouch, Defoe, Heskey and Bent
Bent to be left out. A decision I agree with. This is the one place where I'd choose the player in the chair rather than the one in form - mainly because we aren't set up to play in the way that plays to Bent's strengths.

This would make the final Capello squad:
Hart, James, Green
Johnson, Carragher, Ferdinand, Terry, King, Upson, A Cole, Baines
Walcott, Lennon, Barry, Carrick, Lampard, J Cole, Gerrard, Milner
Rooney, Defoe, Crouch, Heskey

I'm wondering whether Fabio will take neither Baines or Warnock, giving him the luxury of taking an extra attacking minded player. Yes, this is risky because you are relying on Ashley Cole, but it might solve a selection dilemma in midfield.

Maybe if Barry was fully fit he could take a chance as he has player there before, but it is too risky otherwise.

I don't think he will take Upson or Dawson. Carragher can cover CB as well so along with Terry, Ferdinand and King i think that will be enough.

Capello needs some insurance in midfield with Barry struggling and Gerrard picking up a couple of knocks so i can see Carrick and Hudd joining Barry, Gerrard and Lampard in midfield.

Warnock, Parker, Bent, A Johnson and Wright-Phillips will be the others left behind.

with Ferdinand and King's fitness issues this year taking only 3 dedicated CBs would be a risk imo. Especially as Johnson is so suspect defensively. There is definitely a case for Carragher playing later in the tournament even if Johnson is fit for me.

The Dawson sitch can be read two ways:

1) He didn't get a go, Cap doesn't rate him highly enough, he's not going.

2) Cap's seen his consistency and reliability, has decided he's the perfect back-up CB, and doesn't need to test him out.

Personally, I hope it's the latter, but suspect it's the former.

Either way, Daws will be one of the two 1st choice CBs by the time Euro 12 comes along.
