Woy has just said there wont be any surprise picks for the World Cup, so that means it pretty obvious who will most likely make it.

Goalkeeper:
3 of
Hart
Ruddy
Foster
Forster

Right Back
Johnson
Walker

Left Back
Cole
Baines

Centre Back
Jageilka
Cahill
Jones
Smalling

Centre Midfeild
Gerrard
Carrick
Wilshere
One of:
Henderson
Barkley
Lampard
Cleverly

Winger
Milner
Walcott
Townsend (saved Roy's job)

One of:
Lallana
Oxlade-Chamberlain
Sterling
Zaha
Young

Striker
Rooney
Sturridge
Wellbeck

One of:
Lambert
Defoe
Carroll

So it appears that Dawson, Caulker and Lennon will most definitely not go to the world cup. Now I dont think they are world class but they way England play these 3 are more suited to that style than the way we play. They also play that way better than some of the guys on this list. Though one of these two defenders may make the provisional squad but thats most likely to go to Lescott and Gibbs.

Imo these players are dodgy/questionable selections
RB:
Johnson as first choice RB

CB:
Cahill - who has been poor when pushing up
Jones - United connection but at least he plays as a CB this season
Smalling - Fulham Connection and plays for united, unless anyone genuinely believes he deserve to be there considering he has play 4 times this season in the league and every match has been as a RB

CM:
Gerrard - Liverpool connection, his passing just doesnt work and he seems to be a tosser on the pitch by having a go at players for messing their passing LOL
Wilshere - the future of mankind, all hope rest on this mans shoulders, hes not a starter for his club
One of:
Henderson - liverpool connection and Roy loves him, tbf his passing is better than Gerrards
Barkley - Too soon imo, he will struggle to get in to that everton team if he plays like last season
Lampard - the tosser is everything that represents our national team since he was a regular, a shit
Cleverly - plays for united, has the ability to play shit and still find better balls than gerrard, who is world class

W:
Milner - first name on the team sheet, world class player, who is beating a lot of competition at the moment to be 3rd choice RW at city behind Silva and Navas
One of:
Oxlade-Chamberlain - he's so good he bossed the midfield against two players who didn't even play for AC Milan anymore:eek: also he wont be playing enough to warrant a call up
Sterling - plays for Liverpool
Zaha - plays for United
Young - plays for United

Str:
Welbeck - he plays for united and he has the amazing ability to be threat:LOL: on the wing and up front
One of:
Lambert - Helped Roy defeat the mighty Moldova
Defoe - Roy is a bit of a nut job lol
Carroll - played for Liverpool

It's a pretty poor England squad to be fair.. CB's are not good enough... The wing options confuse me.. CM is gonna be outta date by the World Cup.. Strikers, awful.. And formation is too rigid.

Basically, we have an alright Keeper, a couple of alright full backs, an alright CM that won't start, an alright winger who doesn't pass, and an alright number 10, who should be much better than he is - where has that young lad gone that shone as a number 9 in first tournament?

If the so called Golden era couldn't do anything, I'm not holding much hope for this lot..

After the 4-1 loss to Germany last time, we should have scrapped the whole lot and started again.. By now at least, they'd all know each other and be able to play as a unit.

Nice of Roy to say that nobody is going to break into the squad.

Obviously all England managers do the same thing but good to see him admit that players don't get picked on form.

I wouldn't look too much in to what he said. My 23 man squad would be;

GK:
Hart
Forster
Ruddy

LB:
Baines
Cole

CB:
Cahill
Jagielka

Lescott
Caulker

RB:
Walker
Johnson

CM:
Wilshere
Gerrard

Carrick
Jones

CAM:
Rooney
Barkley

LS:
Townsend
Lallana

ST:
Sturridge
Carroll

RS:
Walcott
Zaha

Players in italics would be my starters for the first game.

Hart

Walker - Cahill - Jagielka - Baines

Gerrard - Wilshere

Walcott - Rooney - Townsend

Sturridge

Thought I better justify a few selections/positions:

- Lescott: I'm not his biggest fan, but I would much sooner see him there than Smalling. He also has experience at a major competition.

- Jones: His general versatility means he will be going. There is no doubt about it in my mind.

- Townsend as LS: I can't see we really have much of a choice. I think he will adapt his game as the season goes on also to accommodate himself on either wing, and obviously his inclusion depends on his form for Spurs.

- Carroll: Mainly because this is not West Ham. We all know how international defenses struggle against a battering ram forward. We need to take a big striker, and out of Carroll, Crouch and Lambert I think he's our best option. It could be worse, just think, Heskey went to the last World Cup...

- Zaha: I think he'll go on loan in January, most likely to Palace in an attempt to keep them up. Puts in a few good performances and I think the final "winger" spot will be his.

Bottom line is we don't have much to choose from. Injuries permitting I genuinely believe this is our best 23. If any of Cleverley, Smalling, Lampard or Welbeck get on the plane we might as well wave the white flags now.

Yea but how can you justify his selection of Smalling. On no planet does it make sense!

Zaha - Its almost certain that Welbeck will be on the plane and so will be Milner. So Zaha is non story and imo I have been disappointed by him, I havent seen him under Southgate but he was shite under Pearce. Townsend was outperforming both him and Ince in his cameo's.

Lescott - imo, wont be there as he is simply not play and the same could be said about Milner but Milner clearly has dirt on someone in the FA. Dawson though he doesnt suit AVB's system he does suit Roy's imo, he is like Terry where he struggles with a high line unless he has a partner to get him out of trouble whereas Roy likes to play very deep(though it does get insanely high at times).

Carroll - is a strange one because where is he, other than pictures of him being drunk we havent seen him. No doubt that Defoe and Lambert are ahead of him.

Lampard - he has been in every squad do we seem him being dropped now, the reason he may not make it, is fear of a possible backlash that the players are too old!

I think you have to amend your selections to include Welbeck and Milner because they are most definitely going if they are fit

The day I put Welbeck in any squad is the day I want it all to end.

As for Mr Personality, I simply just forgot about him. He'd probably be in ahead of Zaha then, but the rest of my squad stays as is.

I'd love to contribute something sensible to this thread but for the life of me I can't think of anything..I think this is the most average/worst squad of England players I can remember in my lifetime. For opposing teams they'll be tough to break down and a threat from corners/set pieces, and that's about it. One thing's for sure: it will be excruciatingly dull to watch.

Also, Woy looks alarmingly like my Gran.

Only one more England match before he has to name his provisional 30 man squad, so I suspect all he's saying is 'if you haven't made the squad yet, its unlikely you will be in my last squad' !

The only place might be if we lose say both left backs to injury - and need to luke at Luke Shaw and Danny Rose

He did say there wont be any surprises and it suggested it would be the same guys used for the qualifiers. So its clear that half of that list wont even have a look in

No Cahill. If Dawson is a cart horse Cahill is ready for slaughterhouse.

No Lampard. Doesn't have legs. We aren't getting past qf anyway, give younger players experience for euro 2016.

Sod Caroll(never fit) and Lambert.. Don't need to resort to that route.
