I believe Fryers can play as CB, if and when he signs, and aren't we also meant to be signing Grant Hall another young CB, maybe the idea is to keep them interested by making them 5th and 6th choice. I'd imagine it would be pretty disheartening seeing another 6 players in front of you for your position, so this might spur them on so to speak as the chance of the first team is only a couple of injuries away. Maybe one of the reasons we have been able to encourage them to come to us.

I may be completely wrong though and we could have a surprise CB signing in the pipeline.

Nothing on the OS that Dawson is off either...

Can you imagine how great it would be if Spurs posted stuff on their website like:

"3 bids in for Dawson; 1 from Sunderland (£7.9m + Ji-dong-Woo - rejected out of hand); 1 from QPR (£9.4m - accepted); 1 from Stoke (£9.6m + £1.6m for every 40 long balls he plays - accepted).

Spurs fans, we invite you to vote on the best offer:

Vote 1 - Stoke
Vote 2 - QPR
Vote 3 - Keep Dawson"

I mean stuff like that would be great. But utterly stupid for many reasons which are clearly obvious.

But how many times have we sold players and not adequately replaced them? Raziak for Kanoute? Campbell for Berbatov? Zokora for Carrick?

I think we've moved on a fair bit since these transfers took place though and a much stronger outfit, not to mention higher profile and reputation in Europe.

Depressing that the topic is on Departing Players and not Incomings. Fingers Crossed that this is making room for new arrivals.

I dont see it as depressing with players moving on. We need the room, the cash and their wages. players will come in the next 2 week for sure. We all know how levy works with late deals.

Well, not that we need defenders, but certainly makes room in the wages department. £45k per week saved there, I reckon.

In fact, we've saved quite a lot on wages now:

(these are all estimates)
Saha - £30k pw
Nelsen - £25k pw
Niko - £50k pw
Charlie - £60k pw
Pienaar - £45k pw

That's £210k pw!

I think it's a real positive actually as how many times before have we all discussed our bloated squad and the requirement to 'sell to buy'?

I'd wager these next two weeks will be absolutely manic at the club - both in's and out's.

It's a positive if we're finally receiving bids for these players, particularly some of the ones who we've found tricky to shift previously.

But as the mighty BOF has said above, all that will be fairly useless if we don't have upgrades to come in. If we do get rid of Bassong, Dawson, Jenas, Rose and Hudd, keeping in mind that we've already sold Corluka, Kranjcar and Pienaar with Modric on the way out as well, then that's a pretty huge clearout (sadly I'm assuming that nobody will take GDS or Bentley off our hands). Ledley has also gone of course.

It'll be quite a reconstruction job to do in 10 days.

As Felmani26 said we need to shift some players to bring some in so I take it as a positive that things are starting to move.

King Spur@footballmafioso
@jetsetyid Hi JJ is Dawson low on AVB's list of main defenders? I really would hate to see him go

The original JJetset@jetsetyid

Despite him not being high on AVBs list of defenders, Dawson is still quality. Heart of a Lion, wears the badge with pride and has a do or die attitude a la Scott Parker. People forget though, he is 28 and has had a couple of serious injuries too.

My attitude to this is: Daws, thanks for the service and for the committed efforts, but, it's time to move on pal.

I'd be delighted with about £8m - £10m for him.

I will miss Daws if he goes big time played the game with a big smile on his face, left everything on the pitch every game and loved the shirt he played in.

side note: did we not buy the kid from forrest that plays CB

Caulker is the future, Daws was fantastic for us but with Kaboul, Verty and Caulker the future looks bright. Daws is a decent man like Woodgate and I would rather see him play somewhere than sit in our reserves.

I wonder whether we would have sold Bassong to Norwich had they kept a clean sheet v Fulham?

Matt Scott is one of the journo's that does the morning breakfast with Brazil and Irani.
Massive Gooner!

However reading the article I cannot understand why some think it's chelsea he is talking about? He speculates that it could be Chelsea because they no longer have Anelka or Drogba. He also mentions arsenal because secretly he wants them to get him obviously. Time will tell!

Will miss dear old Daws if he goes. :(

As much as I like Daws and would be sad to see him go, he isn't quite good enough in my eyes. A good centre half but not a great one and he has been exposed at times over the years he has been here.

He's one of the guys you really want to be good enough but in reality he just isn't :(
