But how many times have we sold players and not adequately replaced them? Raziak for Kanoute? Campbell for Berbatov? Zokora for Carrick?

In theory I see what you are saying, but in this instance, we already have Kaboul, Gallas, Vertonghen and Caulker. No need really for a replacement as we are already well stocked, plus, as others have said, Grant Hall from Brighton is joining/has joined, so although he won't be expected to trouble our starting lineup, he will provide a bit of squad depth, and Fryers is supposed to a LB/LCB... Plus Sandro and Livermore have filled in before and realistically, we are only talking about if our first four CD's get uinjured, that'd have to be suprememely unlucky. Plus we have the ace up the sleeve, should the worst happen, "get you're boots out Ledley"...

POTL on COYS re Dawson

Thanks Gilzean - keep shifting the comments over!

Shame, but I'm not surprised by it. Up to Daws now I guess. Now the words out then maybe he'll have even more options. You don't just 'suddenly' receive 3 offers overnight though do you?

I suggested Carvaleho again last night. I really think it might happen now. 2 out for cash and 1 in to cover - our new Nelson moment.

As much as I like Daws and would be sad to see him go, he isn't quite good enough in my eyes. A good centre half but not a great one and he has been exposed at times over the years he has been here.

He's one of the guys you really want to be good enough but in reality he just isn't :(
Lot of truth in that mate, but... it's Daws... sob.

We don't want to have another Ledley King fiasco, where our captain can only play a few matches a season due to injury and ultimately affect the team's chemistry with constant changing of the backline.

Best see him go now on a high, than watch him struggle along like King did.

Matt Scott is one of the journo's that does the morning breakfast with Brazil and Irani.
Massive Gooner!

However reading the article I cannot understand why some think it's chelsea he is talking about? He speculates that it could be Chelsea because they no longer have Anelka or Drogba. He also mentions arsenal because secretly he wants them to get him obviously. Time will tell!

His article doesn't give anything away - and could also be complete bollocks of course - but Chelsea seems the most likely all things considered IMHO...

I believe Fryers can play as CB, if and when he signs, and aren't we also meant to be signing Grant Hall another young CB, maybe the idea is to keep them interested by making them 5th and 6th choice. I'd imagine it would be pretty disheartening seeing another 6 players in front of you for your position, so this might spur them on so to speak as the chance of the first team is only a couple of injuries away. Maybe one of the reasons we have been able to encourage them to come to us.

I may be completely wrong though and we could have a surprise CB signing in the pipeline.

We already signed Grant Hall

He doesn't seem like a Chelsea player though; and how would Torres feel, being ousted by Spain's 4th choice striker?

I think Chelsea will move for Cavani or Hulk.

Am I the only one with a slight niggling fear that a AVB will tear the squad apart, try to put his own touch on it, and perhaps fail? We'll then spend January and next summer resigning Huddlestone Dawson Chimbonda and Keane.

Lets not forget Armstrong for Klinsmann

I bloody hope not. I dont think he will fail. From what I saw on Saturday, the set up and the way they are playing with dynamism and commitment; we're only 3 or 4 quality players away from a great squad!

Sky Sports are now reporting that we are willing to send Tom Huddle's on Loan. Stoke Favourites.

AVB is like having a new Girlfriend who wants to decorate your whole house!! ''I will make sure that there is no trace of Harry here!''

Last season we maoned that Harry didn't rotate the squad enough - this season the way things are going with lots of potential outs and not much coming in, then rotation will not be an issue!!

We will soon not have enough depth.....

i asked JJ about dawson

King Spur@footballmafioso
@jetsetyid Hi JJ is Dawson low on AVB's list of main defenders? I really would hate to see him go

The original JJetset@jetsetyid
@footballmafioso sadly yes. 1 of the nicest genuine human beings you will ever meet is Daws :0(
Lol at someone else getting your tweets on here quicker than you! Top whoring on their part!

Re: replacements - this is a bit different to the days of Rasiak, Campbell etc. as, particularly in defence, we have replacements in house already. Personally I like the fact that senior players who were going to see little game time are being moved on seemingly in favour of younger players (Caulker, Fryers, Livermore, Carroll, Kane to name a few) who need the game time with us to reach their potential. We're never going to be in a situation where we have to field a side with all of them in, but drop the odd one in here and there (e.g. Carroll alongside Sandro, Caulker in with any of the senior centre halves) and they'll do just fine.

I wouldnt mind evolving the squad IF WE HAD ANY MONEY.

I am not confident one bit of having any of this money we are bringing in reinvested back into the squad. If you dont have that confidence - with each sale comes a bit more aprehension.

We saved a tonne on wages and brought in a few million quid in the last year and we havent really invested all that yet into the squad.

Im a bit perplexed by things.

For what its worth I dont think we are well stocked at the back, I dont think we are well stocked in the middle five and I certainly dont think we are well stocked up front.

ALOT OF WORK

I don't think AVB/Levy would let the players go without having at least SOME intention of replacing/reinvesting.

Agree, not the thread for this, but with Modric and Ade in the line-up on Saturday i feel we would have won easily.
