Vicario
Porro Phillips Davies Udogie
Bentancur Sarr
Lo Celso
Kulusevki Son Johnson

This is where I do wish managers could easily adapt between back 3 and back 4 because I'd keep the attacking principles but switch to:

Vicario
Emerson Phillips Davies
Porro Bentancur Sarr Udogie
Kulusevki Son Johnson

I actually think that if Bentancur starts it should be in the Maddison role. I don’t think he’s physically ready yet to play as a 6 or 8. It’s either him or GLC as a 10 , not both in the midfield. We could be overrun if they both start.

Good idea but I can’t see Ange doing it.

How much of Phillips have you actually seen in competitive matches? Ange watches him every day in training and has so far concluded he's not ready for this type of game. To say there's 'absolutely nothing to lose' here is really quite bizarre.
Has Ange really concluded he’s not ready ? If that’s the case he would not be selecting Phillips for a set of match day 18 squads. He was even selecting him in squads when we had no injuries
Phillips is in plans hopefully he gets his chance soon.

Throwing in an eighteen year old against a team that's scored the second most goals in the league isn't going to happen. Dier and/or Davies, barring injury, will start, and that's the fault of Romero and no one else.

Vic; Porro, Dier/Emerson, Davies, Udogie; Bentancur/GLC, Sarr, Hojbjerg; Deki, Son, Brennan.

But we could have thrown him in against Wolves, then, if he did well, it would be an easier choice against Villa.

3-4-3 would leave us quite vulnerable

3-5-2 would be possible but our next opponent is Villa who tends to get the ball wide

Vicario
Royal Phillips Davies
Porro Deki Bentacur Sarr Udogie
Son Johnson

same personnel but shoring up the middle and then in and out of possession, switching to 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3 fluidly

Ange: “If you want change, change things.” Playing the same XI as Wolves will just result in the same old, same old.

The next month or two is now like Poch’s first season. Blood some kids, find out if they can make it. And use their energy and fearlessness to invigorate the rest of the squad.

If he’d kept playing Kaboul and Adebayor, then he’d have got sacked. And maybe out all the young players he used, Kane was the only one good enough to make it to the next level, but Mason, Townsend, Bentaleb were important to the journey.

we are going to lose anyway so -
Vicario; Porro, Philips, Dorrington, Udogie; Bentancur, Sarr, Donley; Kulusevski, Son, Johnson
I mean or just play our Argentina starter 10 who was one of the most creative players in Europe and looked good when he came on….

And if he played badly, his confidence is shot and everyone says he’s not ready. So we have to go back to Dier/Davies who also now have no confidence.

Kane, Mason, Townsend and Bentaleb all had more senior experience than Phillips or Dorrington. I want us to play youth again too, but making their debut against a team managed as well as Villa are seems insane.

Anyone saying that Dier and Davies provide experience are absolutely correct

But its the wrong kind of negative, defeatist experience.

Honestly think I’m taking crazy pills because I don’t know how people who say this watched the game on Saturday.

FML, Romero being out as well as VDV truly has screwed us for these three games. Not sure we pick up a single point from them now. Unless Phillips really is different gravy then I doubt Ange is willing to sacrifice him like that so Dier and Davies it is.

FML.

And sign two f'ing CBs the next time we need two f'ing CBs please DL and the high ups, ta.

I don't really get why. We know the players who they'd be replacing aren't up to it, so what's the downside? I'm not suggesting throwing 3 or 4 of them in at once. One or two at the most.

They only had more first team experience because Sherwood threw them in.

I’d honestly be more nervous with Dier in there than Phillips. Villa will know all about Dier they’ll target him with balls over the top and around the side. They’ll run at him. They know he likes to back away and make an angle for the shot. They won’t know to much about Phillips, what his strengths and weaknesses are.

it might not work out and it’s not an ideal situation to bring him in but going with Dier again is just asking for trouble.

Anyone know when Solomon is due back? Could use him on the right and allow Deki to slot into Madders slot if he was back soon.
