Not really. Us getting knocked out in the group stage because we weren't good enough to get out hardly devalues the competition. If anything it suggests its competitive and worth while. The competition isnt for us and frankly with the results that have come out of it, I think it's already been a bigger hit than most expected. The only thing in our favor here is it devalues the competition if we are not in it.
The whole point of the conference league is to appease smaller uefa members and not have clubs from the big leagues do well.
A Roma Tottenham final, as suggested here would actually not be so good for the competition as it's likely to not be particularly interesting to all but the most hardened fans of those teams. Say, a club with lots of fans, like Partizan reach the final. It would create enthusiasm around the city and country as a team which is financially locked out of realistically winning a european competition before, now has real chances to achieve something that would be remembered.
Not everything revolves around the big league clubs. Partizan as an example isnt just popular in Serbia but across various different countries. A lot of these teams have naturally quite large fan basis which, from a commercial point of view, can be untapped by providing a platform to engage fans outside what can be very monotonous domestic leagues.
Furthermore, a team like partizan struggles to get more than 5k in an uncompetitive league apart from against red star, which always sells out their 30k stadium. European ties sell much much better.
