The only thing in our favor here is it devalues the competition if we are not in it.
Not really. Us getting knocked out in the group stage because we weren't good enough to get out hardly devalues the competition. If anything it suggests its competitive and worth while. The competition isnt for us and frankly with the results that have come out of it, I think it's already been a bigger hit than most expected.

The whole point of the conference league is to appease smaller uefa members and not have clubs from the big leagues do well.

A Roma Tottenham final, as suggested here would actually not be so good for the competition as it's likely to not be particularly interesting to all but the most hardened fans of those teams. Say, a club with lots of fans, like Partizan reach the final. It would create enthusiasm around the city and country as a team which is financially locked out of realistically winning a european competition before, now has real chances to achieve something that would be remembered.

Not everything revolves around the big league clubs. Partizan as an example isnt just popular in Serbia but across various different countries. A lot of these teams have naturally quite large fan basis which, from a commercial point of view, can be untapped by providing a platform to engage fans outside what can be very monotonous domestic leagues.

Furthermore, a team like partizan struggles to get more than 5k in an uncompetitive league apart from against red star, which always sells out their 30k stadium. European ties sell much much better.

I keep seeing how our absence would devalue the competition and, frankly, all I can say is 'balderdash'.

Firstly, when Portsmouth won the FA Cup, or Greece the Euros, or Villarreal the Europa, did we all think 'yeah, but x got knocked out early on, so that means shit'. No. We didn't.

Secondly, if this devaluation comment is based on European pedigree, well, there are four European Cup Winners in the draw, so, on that basis, we don't even deserve to make the semis. Alternatively, if we're going on current coefficient, then, yes, Roma and Spurs do make the final (and we lose). Spurs and Roma are the most competent non-achievers of the last five years. Whoop-de-fucking-do.

Not that I trust Spurs to get there anyway. Dinamo Zagreb, anyone? Gent? The combined might of PAOK and Rubin Kazan? I quite welcome getting knocked out by UEFA's ethics committee. It'll be a damned sight less embarrassing than those nights of ignominy, that's for sure.

And, finally, when they launched the competition, UEFA made a big deal about clubs who'd never got to a European final finally having a chance. I appreciate Basel v Copenhagen might not be the greatest glamour tie in world football, but just think how excited you'd be if you followed one of those clubs and they made a European final for the first time. That - for me - is what the Conference League should be all about. It shouldn't just exist to provide a second-tier trophy for the best of a bunch of above-average under-achievers.
So glad you said this, was gonna say something similar, but tired of getting disagrees and dislikes ?
But since you've broken the ice those type of comments about the competition needing us, are exactly the type that help make us one of the hated clubs in the country
A lot of that hate is nonsense and prejudice often based on knee jerk tribalism
But the the criticism of us being too big for our under achieving boots gains validity from comments like these
I can just imagine the reaction from West Ham and Foxes. Chelsea and Soton fans to such views
It would push their hatred to new levels
In one sense I don't care, in another sense it makes me sad to give ammo for the oppo to fire at us

I dont really care if the competition needs us or not, or if it would be so much more romantic to have a Bodo/Glimt vs PAOK final. None of that is relevant.

I just want us to win a trophy and dont think it would be fair for us to get knocked out having played 1 less game. We got to a CL final by scraping through the group stage in the final match.

"Selections for the remaining two match rounds in February will be finalised once the schedule for UEFA club competitions is confirmed, with an announcement to be made following the outcome of the Carabao Cup quarter-finals and subsequent draw for the semi-finals."

Bizarre sentence in the article on TV selections for February on the official site. Is it saying that there'll be an announcement about the Conference League after the West Ham game??

If it was us causing the issue it would be a straight forward 0-3 and we're out.

The fact it's gone to the Uefa ethics committee suggests it is Rennes who are the issue which puts Uefa in a very difficult position if they award us the 3-0.
Rennes have absolutely no need to agree to a re-scheduled game as they are through as group winners.
Uefa could try to force them by threatening them with a points deduction to reduce their points below us/Vitesse but then they may just send out the kids and make a mockery of the competition anyway.

I'm not sure there is an easy way out for Uefa as we look like the beneficiaries in any circumstance unless they can justify bending their own rules.

Had to read that line 5 times on the site I think that suggests we are still in the Confrence therefore waiting to see if the carabo semi dates are free or not to possibly play Rennes.if we can’t use carabo date we may have to use a midweek date in February and that will knock on to PL fixtures. If they knew we were out of the Confrence then there’s no issue with finding dates to play.

I think it’s referring to the two remaining PL fixtures in Feb, as they would be affected if we were still in the Carabao cup. Also, one of those games is City, so I’d suggest that their European commitments will have an impact on scheduling too.

The way it's being reported makes me think that we're going to lose the default and then Spurs can point to all of this information and say, well we did everything we could.

We're definitely doing this the right way to tip it in our favour when it comes to them making a decision I believe.

Frankly I don't care if we get kicked out or go through as long as we don't suffer any other stupid sanctions from UEFA because of it

Just hope we get the decision this week, and doesn't involve any further sanctions past a forfeit and elimnation
If we get to stay in without further sanctions, then good luck to the club in sorting out priorities

How? If they play 6 games and we play 6 games how are they getting fucked?
If we get rewarded a 3-0 win by the ethics committee because Rennes are being dicks and refusing to reschedule despite our best efforts, we won't have played 6 games...

Vitesse would very much be getting fucked if that happens.

Most likely outcome is we get kicked out, though, IMO.

People keep saying "Rennes are being dicks" but why should they give up their winter break ?

Do they stop training altogether or just stop playing games? Because if they're training they can play a match. In fact the competitiveness might help them stay sharp.

I don't know the exact details, but if it's true we're literally offering to fly over to France to play a dead rubber in which they could put out a team of u-23s and yet they're still refusing to play...that constitutes being dicks in my book.
