One thing that is night and day between Jose and Poch is the amount of crosses we get into the box now and quickly also.

Under Poch we would get into a crossing position and cut it back, pass back to the centre backs and slowly move the ball over to the opposite side leaving the whole 11 opponents to set up a wall.

Under Jose we are far more direct and quick at moving forward and getting the ball in the box early.

I like it

Yep, the biggest difference is we play much more direct. We give it to our attackers quickly whether that’s a long ball or not, we play forward so much faster.

I dont think Winks is a bad player, he's just not as good as Ndomble so I dont get why Jose doesn't start him, unless he is just still feeling his way and getting to know our players

Easy for us, we watch this rabble every game but Jose has only just come on board, maybe he needs to start watching a few replays
Ndombele hasn't started as he's just back from injury. He may well start this weekend

I'm sorry... What?

What "tactical nous" exactly has "got us through" these early tough opponents in West Ham in relegation form and Olympiakos - in dire recent league form and who have only taken points from us so far in CL?

We are playing the exact same formation and tactics as we have under Poch. The only change Mourinho has made is starting Moura and Dier consistently. And he hooked both before 60 minutes.

I mean this as no criticism of Mourinho but the fact is he's changed almost nothing. If anything he's taken us BACK to our comfort zone of 2 years ago and that failed when Olympiakos went through Dier and WInks like hot knife through butter.

I don't blame Mou for this - he's gone back to what made us so successfull when he played against us - but to pretend he's performed some sort of tactical magery is simple nonsense. It's projection. We have performed no better - yet - under Mourinho than we did under Poch. Let's stop talking shit hey?

Hopefully Mourinho has learned that what we had in 2016-18 no longer applies and changes things accordingly. There is ZERO evidence to suggest that's happened so far. In fact the first half tonight was a massive backward step. Which is fine. He has to know what doesn't work to know what does.

But let's stop this "he's working miracles" bullshit meme in its tracks. It's not true; it doesn't help anyone least of all the team. We need change. We need him to change it. Otherwise what's the point?
Dude, Pochettino achieved a lot for the club and we'll always remember that. But there is no need to keep his memory alive through fiction. The tactics and formation is night and day, and there was not one single match under Pochettino that followed the same tactical ground rules and principles as the last two matches. And no, we haven't played in the same formation as under Pochettino. Yes, the moment the whistle blows and the first kick is taken, what you see in that moment is 4231. For the rest of the game the players spend most of the time in two other non-Pochettino formations.

Call me cynical but I reckon Jose has known about taking over for at least a few weeks so will no doubt have used that time to study each and every game we’ve played this season. For instance he clearly had watched our pre season friendly against Juventus. Was he pundit for that game?

I’m not the greatest tactician in the world but Mourinho has addressed three frustrating things Pochettino refused to do. The fannying about our own six yard box by the goalkeeper, getting the ball forward quicker, and decisive timely substitutions. Plus I think the team were possibly over trained this year stopping them recovering between matches. Jose Mourinho has won me over I have to say.

'Hes only beaten West Ham and Olympiakos' seems a popular line at the moment.

If only it were that simple we might have got results against 'only Colchester, Brighton, Newcastle and Watford'.

If only he’d of been appointed after Brighton we might be in an even better position.

give it time my friend. We are in the bus building phase. Next season we park it and the next we crash it. Once you understand the cycle you understand the methods. I would have faith that you'd get there but then again you want that google chip in your head. Dier will be his Matic or Luke whatever his name is the LB at ManU.
You need to stop this, who did you vote for in @Spurrific's groundbreaking poll btw?

I've said for years, ball boys should be part of your home advantage.

At its most basic, speed the game up when you need a goal, slow it down when you're winning. It winds me u when they sprint round to get a ball when we're holding on to a 1-0 lead.

But it can go further than that and last night was an example. I'd like to think that if that was an Olympiakos player running to take the throw, our ball boys would slowly roll it at his feet or something to give us the 2 or 3 seconds needed to re-group.

We scored a goal at Fulham in the cup a couple of season ago where their ballboy threw it perfectly in the path of Trippier to take a quick throw. (https://www.joe.co.uk/sport/tottenh...-for-his-huge-part-in-their-fa-cup-win-113812). I remember thinking if I was a Fulham fan I'd have been fuming with him.

I remember once when we played Leeds and Venables was their manager and he threw a ball to our player who ended up taking a quick throw in which we scored from. Amusing at the time, but probably not for Leeds fans.

Not watched the game back yet but the one big thing that jumped out at the ground was our long diagonals up to Son. 95% of them were intercepted by the RB but nearly every time Dele was there collecting the 2nd ball and the pitch really seemed to open up for him.

Dele seemed more sprightlier and fitter plus seemed to be playing with a renewed confidence.

I wasn't in the thread last night but I read through it after the match ended.

So bipolar - many of the posters need to cop on to themselves with the tantrum throwing.
.
On an upside some posters were pretty cool and calm and made a sense of it all. Those I thank, they know who they are. The usual suspects.

Son made some comments on the new tactics after West Ham and brought up us being more direct and needing to win 'second balls'. This is clearly part of it. No harm to mix up play if it gets our attackers in better positions.
