You need to stop this, who did you vote for in @Spurrific's groundbreaking poll btw?
Didn't see a poll. But if you'd let me know who or what you'd dislike the most I can get over there and rectify my oversight sharpish. ?

but seriously what was it about? Only poll I saw was Poch in or out but wasn't really interested in that.

Next manager poll....with a list of sometimes hilarious candidates.
Who would you have chosen? Exclude the obvious out of reach managers like Klopp and Pep.

Also, mentioning no names (@Phomesy), anyone who refers to him as 'Mou' deserves to have their face chopped off...imo that's in the same severity bracket as 'CR7'
WTF? I do that. Never that 'Maureen' or CR7 sh*t but definitely Mou. Like the previous poster said it's just expedient and the 'inho' is quite an unfamiliar key combination especially for someone (non-Lusophone) whose typing sucks anyway and never felt either was worth the effort. But if you think I should amend my ways in order to show the proper fealty to our new overlord manager then perhaps I should look at this.

I've never seen anyone refer to you as Hee, show some damn respect.
I'll allow Jose, I'm not a monster.

I was at the game last night but I like reading the match thread the day after. Some of the over reactions on here are hysterical. We played a pub side, always felt even at 0-2 that we’d probably win. We beat Red Star 5 a few weeks ago ( didn’t they beat this lot?).
I didn’t want MP sacked but I could understand it and once we’d appointed JM i could understand that as well. This squad needed a renowned manager who they’d respect instantly,( there’s not many around) we’ll see how it unfurls in the coming months. But reading back over this thread you’d think Jose had won us the league and Poch was a clueless chancer. He hooked off an unfit defensive midfielder and replaced him with an attacking forward thinking one. Poch didn’t do anything as drastic so early because unless I’m mistaken we were rarely 0-2 at home after 20 minutes.
Some fans are so desperate for success that they ignore the 4 and a half brilliant years of work from Poch. We won countless big games in that time, it’s a myth to say that we didn’t. The old trophy nugget is slightly misleading, we were unlucky and often found ourselves playing excellent teams at the later stages of comps and fell short to a Leicester team that every other team bent over for and a Chelsea side that wasn’t in Europe . Poch made some mistakes and wasn’t faultless by any means but the over reaction by some about Jose’s managerial abilities are a bit desperate. Saying all that I’m desperate for JM to win us a trophy or two but I I’m Just not as confident as some pundits and some on here that he will.

I was PochIn my friend. I had accepted that we would have a tough year in the summer and was giving him a pass on results this season (not a pass on some of the other sh*t that we witnessed). I thought the 'painful rebuild' that materialized was not of the magnitude that was necessary.

That said, just like in player recruitment I would like to see 'off the beaten path' names to show that some folks are actually doing their jobs and there is some knowledge and know-how behind the recruitment work. It's probably harder to do that with managers than players but everybody was a nobody before they became a somebody.

I do like Nagelsmann (followed since his elevation at Hoffenheim - out of curiosity and then appreciation- and now RBL) a lot and have been very interested in how his work translates to higher ceiling footballers at RBL (Side note that Haidara guy is rubbish and can't understand the previous calls for his xfer to us with the work I've seen so far). Unlike Kloppo (OMG did I just send Geebs into a coma with that name?) he actually respects possession but unlike Pep he is not a slave to it. I do like Marco Rose at BMG but was unfamiliar with his work at RBS. BMG are an enjoyable watch with some nice players and a balanced side. And another I would have been happy to hear pop up was Marcelino, previously of Villareal and Valencia. This is one hell of a coach. I support Valencia in La Liga (and you do too, at least for tonight I bet) and the work he did to steady that basket-case of a club was monumental. He got them their first piece of silverware (CDR against Barca) since the Villa, Silva, Mata days (same year as Spurs). And did it with the 2nd highest chances created and fewest chances conceded in the league IIRC. And did it all with players most on here have never heard of. He made Gabriel (ex-gooner) solid in defense. Simone Zaza into a Firmino-esque facilitative striker thus taking advantage of the things he did best. Rodrigo Moreno (ex Bolton) into a starting Spain forward.

Not big on Ten Hag. Got all the feels of a Peter Bosz type of situation. Would need to see this guy surpass expectations before anointing him. Seems to have the same flaws that work when you have overwhelming talent superiority but less so when you don't. These blitzkrieg coaches are too Kloppo for me as they always tire and succumb. This is why Nagelsmann is my guy. His press, though high, is not maniacal and can standup for the 90 because they respect possession and slow it down when nothings on. But they can go vertical just as quickly as anyone else.

He's a massive fan of Eddie Howe apparantley
Not really familiar with that word but if it means 'disregard all that comes before it' then yes.

Not sure if has been covered but potential opponents in the last 16 are:
PSG, Juve, Napoli, Barca/Dortmund, RBL/Lyon, Ajax/Valencia.

I believe we can only face the winners of the group so Chelsea and Liverpool finishing top would eliminate us from playing Napoli and Ajax/Valencia.

That's so fucking deep man.
Don't knock it man. That's some 'Murican southern wisdom right there. Keeps perspective for anyone at either side of the scale.

Do u think appointing Jose will go tits up then?
Think? I'd bet my right nut it will. He's on the charm offensive now and everyone will get onside thinking he's changed but this is right out of the siege mentality playbook. Football supporters are a ripe bunch to be taken by this. Just think how many would have supported Mou...rinho at the club

HOLY F*CK THAT CLOGGER MAXI GOMEZ JJSUT MISSED A F*CJING SITTER FOR VALENCIA. A SITTER GEEBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how many would have supported him here in the middle of his ManU meltdown and our high-flying? In a year many would be wearing Suarez t-shirts.

It's a marriage of convenience but I would have liked to see THE project continue and a new project start, not a short term thing while selling a piece of our soul.

That said, I did soften my hatred of him from his TV work...but I always felt certain he was angling for the job at Spu (is that a valid abbreviation in your new construct?). It was an amazingly appealing job for anyone and especially for JOSE since his options were low.

He may try but I don't see him lasting his contract. And if DL is stupid enough to over-value him and give him a new contract before 1 year left then we know the standard playbook is in effect.

They do it for the hilarity mate.
I mean, we all know how side-splittingly funny it is to replace a male name with a female name.
I was honestly struggling for breath reading the thread earlier.

*shudders
I call him 'Mou'.

You're... you're not going to chop my face off are you, Gb? You're not, are you? :(

What are you doing with that cleaver, chum...?

Thing is though, would you sacrifice Kane getting itchy feet and pushing for a move to keep on at this project malarkey?
I personally can see why Levy has rolled the dice with Jose.

YESSSS VALENCIA!!!!!

I dunno, I suppose the 35 agrees my post recieved shows that most others agree but it’s ok for you to think differently no worries.(y)

Ha! But I got 4 winners and everybody knows that SC rules state that every "winner" is worth 10 "agrees" so IN YOUR FACE fella :D

In all seriousness I'll stick with what JM25 (aka "Mou") has had to say about the subject coupled with my own observations of the team over the last five and half years. If you want to believe that JM25 has instantly transformed the squad into title winners based on a 2-3 victory over West Ham and and come from behind win over Olympiakos then that's absolutely fine. I hope you're right. I just expect things to take a little more time and I suspect JM25 expects so too. (y)

Should be 2 up now.
Last season they had some ungodly amount of draws (I was gonna say 'ties' just to send you apoplectic my friend) because they missed sitter after friggin sitter. Marcelino almost got fired in January as they were hovering... But then all those chances created started going in and they moved from 16th to the CL spots. It's brutal.

Thing is though, would you sacrifice Kane getting itchy feet and pushing for a move to keep on at this project malarkey?

You don't wanna know my take on this. It would not be popular. But if @Shadydan could behave rationally for a moment he could fill you in on what I believe about team building. You limey bastards English supporters always talk about the badge being bigger than any one player but when push comes to shove those 'principles' go out the window for a chance to win...in the short term. Kinda like welcoming satan Mourinho into the fold. I know Harry is special in play and in spirit but were I in control/power to make these decisions they would be made based on what is best for Spu going forward not what is best for Harry. Perhaps those would be aligned and as long as that was true then great. But were they to become misaligned then decisions based in Spu's best interests would supercede anything to do with Harry.

That said, I am not a fan of goal-scoring strikers. that's not as obvious and straight-forward as it sounds. sure, some from the peanut gallery will chime in and 'derp, derp, derp' away while completely missing my point in order to make cheap internet points. But my bigger point is that I love facilitative strikers, like Firmino, Benzema (and my underrated fave RONDON). Someone with the strength, athleticism, and technical ability to make the whole team more dangerous as opposed to relying on 1 person for goals. As long as the striker can put them in when the ops present themselves...unlike f*cking Maxi Gomez!!!!!!!!

And I see Levy's calculus is all of this and it's just the same calculus as many other 'leaders' have done in the fog of war. The problem with shortterm decision making is that it becomes a cycle of bad decision after bad decision getting you nowhere. Look where ManU have gotten doing the same stupid shit. It's the underpants gnome's plan and step 2 is still missing because step 2 has always been missing and what led to Poch's downfall. And step 2 is having the balls to remake the squad while it is functioning, making good, better.

And Valencia does what Valencia do. Chelsea up 1-2.

Jesus will you melons stop calling him Maureen? its terrible.
Hmmm. I have met you halfway and now call him JM.
Thing is I'm one of those who have hated the bloke with a passion. His ego. His public slagging of players. His physio debacle. The eye gouge. His blaming of everyone but himself.
The guy has been an absolute complete and utter ####. And his football was awful. Really awful. Succesful, but bloody awful.
And now he's our coach and he's a changed man apparently.
Ok.
So I now HAVE to back him after slagging him and calling him Maureen for the last I dont know how long? Hypocrite.
However to be honest I've not got a bad word to say about him since he got here.
He says he's learnt from his mistakes, he's funny, passionate made all the correct decisions on the pitch as far as I'm concerned.
But, its only 2 games and 2 games that we've won.
Lets wait and see if this leopard really has changed his spots or not.
Then maybe we can go back to calling him whatever we want lol.

Interesting that Jose put his hands up and mentioned maybe he should've rotated more due to tiredness, with that in mind I think we'll see some changes at the weekend.

I must have missed that, thanks for highlighting it. It is good that he was able to admit that. So far he hasn't put a foot wrong in building the new image, relationship with the fans and media persona. Not going to put any money on it lasting, just hope it lasts long enough to win something.

Genuinely interested in what you would have done?

Personally I would have been happy to sacrifice an Eriksen two years ago for the funds to finance a squad improvement.

Kane, a different story altogether. He is a perhaps once in a generation thing of folklore. Up through the ranks, written off as never going to make yet becoming a virtually irreplaceable force.
