None of those were clear cut chances, maybe the Son miscontrol and Reggie's were the best, but they were never chances where you were like, that was clear cut. Even if Son had controlled, maybe the keeper gets there anyway.

We just aren't creating real good chances. You only have to look at what rival fans think of our football and prospects under Nuno. He's basically Jose without the success. I think the season is going to get real ugly from here rather than actually turn upwards..

We conceeded to a set piece and a massive deflection off a potshot. Neither were clear cut chances. That Kante fluke knocked it right out of us and we just went through the motions after that.

Granted that last 25 mins, only 1 team looked like getting another goal. It's worrying but stay positive and who knows.

I’m sure you’ll take great glee in this.

I’m not happy with the situation either but I can’t continue this discussion, we’re poles apart on what we saw in the first half.
currently we bottom of the league in terms of expected goals for
That’s no surprise given how little we did v Wolves, Watford and Palace. Don’t need XG to tell me that our attack has been shit this season though, eyes can tell me that (and the grand total of 3 goals in 5 games). Still doesn’t change the fact that yesterday we should’ve been winning at half time.

Getting outplayed. Bring on best midfielder in the league, maybe in the world.

Rocket science.

The thing is, he did not sub one of his defenders or holdfing midfielders, but his lone AM.
To me, Tuchel's masterstroke is that he beefed the midfield up with 3 workers, to counter our workrate. We "won" the first half because of sheer numbers and quality in central midfield. Most managers would bring on Kante for, say, Christensen.
On paper, Tuchel made his team more defense-oriented and conservative at half time. But in actual fact they became an offensive juggernaut because they were able to control the pace of the game, and weren't outworked any more. Attacking football doesn't always come with bringing more attackers on.
Also, there was the fitness issue. We started two players who hadn't trained all week, but ended up playing 90 minutes. Also, two others who were away from the group, training alone. And had virtually nobody on the bench. Our first half pressing wasn't going to last. The collapse was inevitable, and the fact we couldn't capitalize on early dominance cost us the game.

Just a little reminder that the only premier League goal Chelsea have conceded this season was a penalty at Liverpool, a game in which they were down to ten men for the whole of the second half and didn't concede again.

first half was pretty good yesterday - the first goal was always going to be important and it was to easy if you playing a good team if you you have to make them work for the breakthrough a soft one from a corner is poor - after that you have to stay in the game and hope for a break the lucky second killed it one we had an outside chance two was well beyond us

In the second half they were excellent Kante ran all over us and killed our out ball to the left by stopping Alli and Reg getting forward the centre back could have had a fag and walked around we couldn't work the ball into any meaningful posession..
Whoever finishes above them will win the League unfortunately based on yesterday and even the manager sensed the danger and killed it off

the ref was good yesterday as well

The thing is we won't will we. We raised our game just like we did against City, but when it comes to playing the likes of Wolves, Watford and Palace we've already seen what this squad will do. We've all been watching football long enough to know we will revert to type.
This for me is baffling. They can see, they know how well they CAN play, yet they CHOOSE not to... No leader out there and it's been the case since VDV left.

I don’t know about everybody else, but I’m not ready to get all despondent after that result.

There were some mitigating factors on our side, plus we were up against a Chelsea team who have been getting stronger and stronger ever since Tuchel’s appointment.

Nuno set us up and chose tactics that caught Chelsea off guard. He chose to go on the front foot and be a bit brave, which was refreshing and good to see. However, we had men in there who either weren’t match fit or simply don’t have the engine to sustain that sort of game for 90 minutes. We needed to turn the pressure and territorial control in to a goal inside that opening 20-25 minutes. Once Chelsea weathered that period, and were then able to call upon one of the best central midfielders in the world to change the game in the 2nd half, you always have to expect them to come back at you.

We don’t have that calibre of game changer on the bench, and we were short due to Moura and Bergwijn being out, two players we surely would have looked to bring on to try and reimpose the high press and energy.

We lost a goal to a set piece that was really, really well finished by Thiago Silva, then the second a huge deflection off a pot shot from Kante, really knocking the stuffing out of us. Rudiger’s finish for the third was pretty decent too.

Could we have defended better? Sure. Could we have created more or better chances? Yeah. Could Harry have refrained from dropping quite so deep, quite so often? Yes. But, were we an utter disaster from the first whistle to the last? No, not at all. Let’s not throw the entire club under the bus just yet, eh?

TLDR version: COYS.
