With regard qualification for the CL I've seen several people say things along the lines of 'there's no point' or 'prefer to play a comp where we have a chance' .............That one's worked out particularly well the last 20 years I'd also ask, if we aren't going to qualify for it, if you don't want to qualify for it, then why are you losing your shit when results reflect that.

I also ask myself wether or not people are far too reliant on basing this on this year's squad and ignoring the possibility that next year might be a lot better.

Overall, there's no aspect of it that I can really agree with.

The sad thing is, people on here will say they don’t want Champions league because “we aren’t ready” then come summer, the same people will complain we aren’t buying the sort of players they deem suitable because… we don’t have champions league and the associated money and lure that comes with it. People will say they don’t want to be in it, but they will also appear in player threads with their “we’re going for the cheap option” comments.

I get it Levy never splashes cash the way people want him to, because some of these folk genuinely want him to play the game like Chelsea. It’s madness.

This is probably pointless tbf, as the position we’re in we aren’t likely to get there. I just hate the pushing for mediocrity then complaining when it arrives. Feel like some would be happier supporting clubs like Palace, make sure you’re safe but don’t try for anything more as “we probably wouldn’t win anyway”.

Even though their fans are probably in the same boat as us right now with a win for them basically handing their rivals the title (only difference is City probably go on and win it whether Utd win or lose)

I want us to be in the CL, but just don't think we will get 4th, we left ourselves too much to do now. After the villa game, I thought we might have turned it around, but we went on a shit run and struggling with injuries again in key areas (LB and striker)

I would expect new players in, so the starting team should be better and hopefully more players on the bench that he trusts to come on.

Our fans would have laughed their asses off if arsenal fans had suggested they were better off in the EL when we pipped then to champions league under Conte.

It's basically just a naff coping mechanism for a very mediocre second half of the season.

Pleased with the win today but really anything else against a pretty dreadful Burnley team would have been somewhat embarrassing and the performance yet again was very average.

“Better off” isn’t the right phrase I agree. But I think it’s reasonable for a lot of fans to feel they would enjoy a Europa League run more than being picked apart on a weekly basis in the newly reformatted Champions League. Is that a reflection of a lack of confidence in this group? Absolutely, but again that’s reasonable based on recent form.

Exactly this. People need to understand that many of us have booked football for Tuesday or Wednesday nights because we were never in UCL. It's a bloody inconvenience. Bring back Thursday night football

Regardless of competitions we're playing in next season, hopefully we won't be playing the boring stodgy football we've seen for many months this season. The first 5 mins had a big chance for each side and I thought we were in for a belter against a side that had to win. But nah, today's game was another borefest of too many touches and little sideways passes that lead to dead ends. Our players, especially Romero, standing still or walking in posession and what looks like an over-coached side over thinking it. Not much fluidity in this side at the minute. Not surprising players like vdv with a bit of something different are the ones to break through the dross.

I don't mind not being in the CL next season.... what I want to see is a manager integrate our academy players into his playing squad..... the CL won't do us any good at this moment in time. A good year of integrating Moore, Donnelly, Phillips, Hall and whover else the manager deems ready would be more beneficial long term.

I want to see a more sustainable push in future season than a 1 season in 1 season out approach.

Having a longer term view to squad building than instant gratification doesn't make for a loser mentality.

A good run? Have you seen our record in that competition?

11 attempts for two quarter finals in the Europa and Conference league. Littered with failures to even get out of the group stages. We even failed to get out of the group in the conference league.

IIRC in what? Five or six Champions Leagues,? We've reached one final and one quarter final.

You tell me, which represents our most realistic chance of winning something? In the 'long run' which takes in almost 20 years, we've come a lot closer to winning the Champions League.

Apologies if I got the figures slightly wrong but the point is right there, for the purposes of 'realistic chance', they are all difficult to the point where by that metric there's not much difference which we're in. Except the money for CL is significantly better (or was the last time I read anything about it)

Why do you assume we are in control of having a good run in the EL though would not in the CL.
No one could have predicted the great run we did have and beating Real along the way.
Our problem is consistency and I don't see that being addressed by being in a shitter cup.
Having this viewpoint sort of separates us from the more successful clubs.

I agree with that I do not mind, though fucks me off that people actually want us to be in the EL over the CL. It's like some inferiority bullshit. Think like winners and aim for being top and if it does not happen fair enough though at least we gave it our all. Though when u start aiming for 5th or some shit like that.....

So pleased I was able to put a smile on my nephew’s face. Apart from the friendly win at home to Shakhtar Donetsk and Harry Kane’s farewell 4 goals his first two premier league trips were losses last season at home to Bournemouth and the loss this season at home to Villa.

When Burnley carved us open to go 1-0 up I thought oh no surely not again. Porro’s belter and Micky VDV’s sublime finish left him ecstatic and jumping for joy. Thanks Spurs you have restored my faith. He was beaming with pride and joy all the way home so it was all worth it, lovely to see at that young age.
