Not sure why everyone is so desperate for 4th / CL where we will just make up the numbers but still feel like we need to play our best 11 every game

And it’s hardly like we have changed our spending plans when we have made the CL previously

Would actually prefer EL at this stage in the squads development
I'm staggered that this got so many agrees. This is a bit over thinking IMO, i'd want to be in it for sure and would prefer to look for the positives.

Football fans are changing so much.

Having said that, it's very very unlikely that we will be in it :D

Not a great display - but definitely some positives, imo.

Bissouma played well, Romero and VdV were immense, Skipp had an adequate appearance - which is all you can really ask for from a 4th choice LB.

Maddison played better in the 2nd half.

Vicario had a few big saves.

Porro did not do much - but what a goal.
Yes, Biss has shown a slight uptick in performance these last 2 matches. Thankfully becuase he's been dreadful for ages now.

Makes all the difference in the middle.

It's very unlikely we will win all our games and villa lose all theirs. 5th is where we will finish so losing to city and arsenal losing the league is fine for some of us.

We had our chance to challenge for 4th, but have been shit for the last month or so and lost it.
Spot on. We are not giving Arsenal the title.

Same for me.

Up until final third very good.

But our attackers refuse to do the right thing or execute the move.
They seem to struggle in their decisionmaking against packed defenses. Several of the first few moves in attack are often good given the options. But the two big buts are:
  • The quality of delivery of the final ball is lacking when someone finds space
  • Players getting to space first or creating space by short crossing runs as we often sit in spaces that close down quickly.

You have to factor in the fact that the transition from defence to attack is pedestrian at best. We do not break quick because the service is so bad

I can see why Ange was probably hesitant to play 3 at back and Son in LWB role as we really don't want him that deep.

However we can't play Skipp or anyone else at LB because

1. Teams are targetting that space because whoever is there cannot adjust to balls behind or recover quick enough. A natural LBs blindside and turn is completely different. You can do it in a low or deep block but not high line.

2. The balance of playing out and progressing. Thought Skippy did OK with this but still you don't get that 'natural play' and players can't play first touch into space.

Van de Ven, when he moved to LCB, was taking the first touch aggressively toward the opposition. Now we are a danger on both sides and can switch quickly.

I think that will give Ange plenty of thought because Skipp against City will be a massacre
Was it a back three? Admittedly I had a toddler using me as a trampoline for half the game but it looked to me like the shape was fairly similar.

Either way it worked which is exactly why Micky and Romero should be dropped for Tuesday. Play Skipp at left back and Emerson left centre back.

Surely you would want to play in the best competition against the best teams.
Such a loser mentality to accept mediocrity. No guarantee we do well in the EL or the other European Cup.
We aim to win everything we enter and every game and that should a starting point.

Looked to me at the game that Micky VDV moved out to replace Skipp and Dragusin played left centre back.
To be fair a lot happened at that moment, with Johnson reverting to the right Sonny out to the left and Scarlett came on into the middle.
The most important thing that happened around then though was Maddison had had enough and took the game by the scruff of the neck and started playing like his old self.
To be honest so many things changed throughout the game it was hard to keep track😊

Why are the players doing lap of appreciation after Burnley game and not city?

A reason might be it might clash with their title celebrations but thought the players would join them with that

A massacre? I know Skipp is good but I'm not sure he's that good.

With regard qualification for the CL I've seen several people say things along the lines of 'there's no point' or 'prefer to play a comp where we have a chance' .............That one's worked out particularly well the last 20 years :D I'd also ask, if we aren't going to qualify for it, if you don't want to qualify for it, then why are you losing your shit when results reflect that.

I also ask myself wether or not people are far too reliant on basing this on this year's squad and ignoring the possibility that next year might be a lot better.

Overall, there's no aspect of it that I can really agree with.

Happy for the win today but if we’re honest here, we’re not ready for CL football. If we do get into CL we need to upgrade massively if we’re going to make something of it.

I'm hoping we are going to upgrade massively irrespective of whether we get CL or not.

Our fans would have laughed their asses off if arsenal fans had suggested they were better off in the EL when we pipped then to champions league under Conte.

It's basically just a naff coping mechanism for a very mediocre second half of the season.

Pleased with the win today but really anything else against a pretty dreadful Burnley team would have been somewhat embarrassing and the performance yet again was very average.
