Don’t know if this has been mentioned but listened on the radio yesterday and the commentator was surprised at the stick Johnson was getting off Maddison and others for shooting instead of passing on a couple of occasions. Watched the highlights and they were really getting at him, bit more than what players normally do. Is this because they see him as a bit soft , cannot imagine they would do it with Romero.

I play football on Wednesdays so much prefer a Thursday comp.

Nothing to do with Arsenal :cautious:

Come on UTD tomorrow though.
Even though their fans are probably in the same boat as us right now with a win for them basically handing their rivals the title (only difference is City probably go on and win it whether Utd win or lose)
The difference is that City have won it 5 out of 6 years. Utd fans expect it , whereas Arsenal are 20yrs and counting. Hope to still be counting at the end of the season.
Utd win would be great for us then we could go and beat City with a clear conscience.

Has that ever happened?

I saw this on the BBC this morning :

"Four straight defeats severely damaged their team's hopes of finishing above Villa and Postecoglou was hoping to avoid the ignominy of becoming the first Spurs boss to lose five on the bounce since Ossie Ardiles in 1994"

Surely you would want to play in the best competition against the best teams.
Such a loser mentality to accept mediocrity. No guarantee we do well in the EL or the other European Cup.
We aim to win everything we enter and every game and that should a starting point.
Does big Ange have a loser mentality too as he’s clearly stated he’s not fussed about 4th either at this stage

And we clearly don’t and haven’t aimed to win every game or competition weve entered - decades without major trophies the big clue there

In any case did you not read the “at this stage in the squads development” bit

We couldn’t handle a 40 game season and don’t think the squad is ready for CL with the way we play football without our league form suffering

Why do you assume we are in control of having a good run in the EL though would not in the CL.
No one could have predicted the great run we did have and beating Real along the way.
Our problem is consistency and I don't see that being addressed by being in a shitter cup.
Having this viewpoint sort of separates us from the more successful clubs.
Very simple answer is that the teams in the CL will be much stronger. In the long run and probably season after next I’ll want the CL I just think that next season it would be better to have a good chance of winning a trophy. If anyone really thinks the current team even with a few additions would do well in the CL they are delusional

And what's to say the season after we will do any better. We might not do well next season in CL though there is nothing to suggest we would do better on any other European cup either.
I would still rather play in the best competition with the best players than settle for second best.
You say delusional and I say ambitious!

How can you say theres nothing to suggest we would do better in the EL. It’s a simple fact that there are better teams in the CL. We would probably be the favourites to win the EL. I really can’t see how anyone could not see this. If the CL teams still dropped into the EL then I could see your point but that’s not happening this year

On the CL issue , next season will see weaker teams from Germany & Italy in the Europa League as their top 5 go into the CL , in theory that makes EL slightly weaker in quality and hopefully easier to win.

You don't know who we would draw against in the CL or do you!
Do you think the players want to play in the CL or EL? The experience we would pick up would be better and the potential for some great games.
Anyway it's probably a moot point as it's out of our control however I would still want us to be in the CL.

I still want us to sign Sander Berge, who has had such an odd career imo. But was anyone else impressed with Odobert? I thought he was so much better than any of our attackers. He looked like a potential star to me.
