To echo the more sane analyses here, things are highly unlikely to get significantly better barring some major investment in the squad. We have no one approaching peak Walker or Dembele nor peak Rose, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Wanyama or Eriksen. Even at goalkeeper we are weaker. We have downgraded or got worse in at least 6 or 7 areas of the team. Over the last 6 matches we are 5th in the form table which is certainly nearer the top end than the low end of what we can reasonably expect from this team. Overall we have seen an improvement since Mourinho come in but we need to be realistic about where we are as a squad. 5th, which will probably mean finishing above Man U and Arsenal, plus a good cup run would be a decent season for us. The most important thing is to use the next 2 or three 3 windows to address the issues which have accumulated over the last 2 years.

For the record, he’s also lost 8 out of the last 10. Which is the 3rd time this kind of run has happened in consecutive seasons. And he’s spent a shit load of money. For the record.
Yeah, much as I do admire Howe for his philosophy, Bournemouth's never seem to find any kind of form.

Energy, passion, eagerness to win - call what you will. But this Spurs squad is drained and has grown stale. It's the biggest sports cliché ever but it's so true: if your opponent wants it more than you you'll lose regardless of the difference in quality.

Just look at the way we usually start matches and that has been a problem for the last 18-12 months. Regardless of tactics and regardless if it's been Pochettino or Mourinho in charge we always look lackadaisical in the first half. The signs have been there for a very long time.

As of now I feel like the best scenario would be for the club and for the fans to just accept that this will be a season of transition. It's imperative that we focus on the longhaul and the main object should be to integrate our new signings + the young players like (...if deemed ready for it) Parrott, Skipp, Clarke.

Clear the deadwood in Rose, Eriksen, Wanyama, Vertonghen and have a clear plan of what to do in these two transfer windows ahead of next season.

Optimistic? I guess. But as I see it we don't really have a choice. Levy has already played his triumph card when he sacked Pochettino and hired Mourinho - and we still have the same exact problems as before. The squad is stale, old and unbalanced. There is no way around that fact anymore.

What happened to the Jose that had supposedly learned new things/tactics and the error of his ways on his last sabbatical?

I'm not anti Mourinho, as at the time we needed a change, but the football served up has been absolutely dire, almost pre-historic. I was expecting a lot better, even with our dodgy squad.

Certainly easier said than done but you'd feel there's a market for all but Wanyama.

Ultimately, it's imperative that we bring in Campos because that's the catalyst for the Mourinho project working or not.

At least half the squad need to be put on giant rotisserie. That’s the type of rotation they need.

His PR machine will have fed this line to friendly journalists. You get a couple of news stories out of it as a result. Desperate football fans lap this up as gospel when trying to convince themselves he's the right man for the job..........

He's been here a matter of weeks, I think we need to be realistic about how little of these new tactics/methods he'll be able to implement in the short term. Even then, there's no guarantee that the players will have the brains and ability to practice what he's preaching yet.

I'm satisfied with the changes he's made. He's got a lot of work to do defensively but that's down to the players we've got available. I hope now that the transfer window is open, that we make some signings to our defense.

So your happy with the way we continually concede possession, aimlessly hoof the ball long, struggle to string 1-2 passes together and completely avoid playing through midfield.
