Do you think we have improved under JM or are just lucky with results, as we still seem a shambles in defence and midfield, just getting lucky scoring goals which hides a multiple if sins..
I personally think we are no better off..

We are much better off. A very specific example is the Norwich game - no chance Poch would have made two half time subs.

We've won two away games, which is two more than we'd won in god knows how many games prior.

I think @spids made it clear three posts above yours.

It’s going to take some time to build the systems and approaches that Jose wants to employ so let's just give it some time as we are racking up points.

This seems to have turned into a usual bashing of Levy/ENIC!

By going after Jose and the speed with which he was appointed demonstrates they are serious and FFS the time that he has had some of the expectations are way too high!
I agree with that aspect but there's also a chance Levy chose an expensive coach rather than an expensive rebuild under Poch.

I was and have been fully behind the managerial change as it was obvious the players had stopped responding to Poch. And Jose was certainly the right choice. However, I'm always sceptical with Levy's angle when it comes to managerial decisions.

Has he gone for Jose because he thinks this squad needs no or little investment? Just a successful coach.

Or does he support the idea that we do need a few changes? And a successful coach is the man to guide us.

Because the two are different. And, yes, it's great that Toby wants to stick around and Alli is scoring again AND I did say a change of manager would prevent a major rebuild but the fact of the matter is we do need at least 4 new players.

If Levy thinks Jose will be a success with little investment then he's going to be proven very wrong.

So... about Jose Mourinho...

Anyone else thinks he’s already had a positive impact on the club?

I do, I expected him to come in and stop the rot, to win games we weren’t before. I didn’t expect miracles in terms of us challenging for the top 3 but I did expect us to get into the top 6. So far, I think it’s been a success. I’m curious to see what we do, if anything, in the January transfer window and where we are after the winter break in terms of team shape and direction.

Yes, net spend is a ridiculous measure.

It also completely ignores wages. Ndombele will earn £10.4m a year over six years. If he does well that contract will be improved. £60m in wages over six years plus £60m on his transfer makes £120m minimum.

Trippier was on £65k/week and two years into a five year contract. So we got £20m for him and write off the next three years salary which is about £10m.

So the net between Ndombele and Trippier isn't the £40m difference in their transfer fees. It's the £90m between what Ndombele will cost us over the next six years minus the £20m we got from Atletico for Trippier minus the £10m we won't now have to pay him.

It's like saying Juventus got Ramsey for nothing. He's going to cost them £80m over the next four years.

Certainly been an interesting start for Jose. There has been a lot of talk about him playing dull football. I remember when he took over at Chelsea the first time, one of his early games was a 1-0 win against Utd when he fully parked the bus.

I thought he would change the formation to make us more defensive and start from the back. Instead he has largely played Kane, two wingers and Alli.

I wonder if this is because he feels our attacking players are our best asset so he is simply trying to outscore the opposition or if he wants to lose the boring tag. Very possible that he doesn't see our defensive players as capable of keeping it that tight so trying to play a defensive lineup could be pointless.

He is looking for the right formula and has tinkered a bit. I really think we need a proper midfield enforcer. Someone to work tirelessly off the ball to protect the defence and allow the attacking players to shine. Until we get that player I feel no starting lineup will be that effective.

So far we've tried:
1. Winks and Sissoko
2. Sissoko and Dier
3. Ndombele and Eriksen

How many combinations do we still have to keep trying until we realise we need a better CDM to pair with Ndombele ?
Or, Jose has to play to the strengths of what he has at his disposal. To me that means considering a three man midfield. Either Dier, Tanguy and Sissoko or sub out Dier for Winks. The fact is, we simply do not have the players for a two cm in a 4213 (Jose’s preferred line up). He’s tried different combos but we keep getting overrun in midfield. This issue is further amplified when Dele is in the 10 role. Love it when he plays well, but when he plays poorly, he puts a ton of pressure on his midfield and defense by constantly losing the ball. Sadly. Jose is infatuated with him. But I feel that Lamela would be better in that position right now, due to his pressing and ability to keep possession. It’s all about finding the right balance. And right now, he hasn’t figured out how to get a consistent tune out of the instruments available.

He's 8.5/10 for me so far. We could easily be out of the CL but for him. It's not difficult to imagine losing the home game against Olympiakos under MP. Everything that went wrong in the first half that night could have gone wrong with MP still in charge. I'm not sure he could have turned it round though. We could have been going to Munich needing a point and I doubt we'd have got it.

In the PL he's given all the established players the chance to perform in the 4-2-3-1 formation that they know. It's not just 'Are you Dele Alli or Dele Alli's brother?'. It's 'Are you Tottenham 2017 or are you Tottenham 2017s brother?'. The forwards have delivered, the midfield and defence haven't. But no one can say they haven't been given a fair chance.

Ndombele, Lo Celso and Sessegnon got their chances yesterday, mainly because Son, Winks and Sissoko got themselves suspended. Again, this is something Mourinho has to do. Find a way to integrate three major signings into the first team. Nor immediately necessarily, but over the rest of the season. My guess is that Ndombele will start again at Southampton. Lo Celso and Sessegnon maybe drop back to the bench.

His immediate tasks when he got here would have been to get us into the last 16 in the CL and into the top four at the end of the season. The first was achievable and he did it. The latter looked like a slim chance and he's made it a fighting chance.

Since Mourinho took over only Liverpool have got more points than us in the league, Man City the same. We’d be third on GD if the league has started that week. That’s pretty impressive given the form the players were / are in.
Please don’t bring facts into play when we are knocking Levy and Mourinho.

Matic fits that description if he is given that instruction by Mourinho.
Any number of players with a hint of discipline can follow that instruction. I think we'd be better off developing our own than squandering money on squad players. Matic has been good, but his time has come and gone. It'd be disappointing if this old reunion was to happen again at Spurs.

Made a good start. He’s dealing with some very questionable players right now.

Already clear as day that we’ve moved up a step or two, in terms of tactics. The man knows what he is doing

I'll definitely get slated for this ( ) but I've always thought Lamela would make a good ball playing CDM; doesn't mind a tackle as well.

Jose's doe well and I'm glad he's here. Gives us a chance of Top 4 and better things next season.

Only disappointment us the results vs Chelsea, Utd and Bayern. Thought the gaffer might be able to out think the opposition here, to get a result.

Positive for now, he's had some obstacles to overcome, but he'll need to start including some passers in his preferred 11, and establish some structures and principles for our passing game, especially when we try and play out from the back. Where we'd previously draw pressure in to play through it, we're now very easily pressed most of the time, which leads to the hoofball.

To clumsy. He'd spent half the season suspended.... Which I suppose is the same as half the season injured.

Our defeats are coming against the better sides such as teams that we compete with for CL, we simply just can't beat them because the opposition find us so easy to play through and a defence that keeps giving.
