Depends how that's interpreted I suppose. Prior to the NDP getting seriously underway we broke even (+/- a few million) from year to year. Large profits over the last 2-3 years have been sunk straight into the stadium (minimising the long term impact of the cost). A subsequent return to the break even model means much more money to spend on the squad (hence the recent contract renewals and c.£100m net spend last summer). I'm a natural optimist and just can't currently see any basis for cynicism on this particular front as it's clear that ENIC have always spent everything that's available. Some people (not you) seem to object to them being unwilling to run the club at a loss and make up the shortfall themselves.
Any business has to be self sustaining that I agree with.

not true Richie. We sold £42m worth of players incl. Dembele.

4 x qual for CL and 3 x knockout stages is also more like £180m. New stadium revenue puts us up another financial bracket on WHL (£100m matchday revs plus increased commercial & broadcast) - so where is this 'spend what we earn' come from?

Wembley issues yes, but stadium finance nothing to do with transfer kitty.

So someone's either sitting on all this cash OR someone is ploughing the revenues back into buying up land and property in N17.

I think I know which one it is.

So far we've tried:
1. Winks and Sissoko
2. Sissoko and Dier
3. Ndombele and Eriksen

How many combinations do we still have to keep trying until we realise we need a better CDM to pair with Ndombele ?

Where's the better CDM going to come from outside of the window?

It was £74.6m net spend in the summer but would have been around £100m if we paid the full up front fee for Lo Celso rather than paying the loan fee to get around the payment to PSG. We will most probably buy him in January anyway so regardless of anything it's a pointless little caveat which those who are anti Levy hang onto because it makes them feel better.

Net spend argument is a load of nonsense regardless and misses out a load of context when analysing spending habits.

We didn’t do all of that in the last transfer window though. It’s a different question if we’re talking about spend over a longer period - during which we had the stadium build to consider...
So net spend in the last transfer window was circa £100m unless we sold some players I don’t know about.

Um, i think it’s due to the fact there hasn’t been a transfer window. What would you have José do whilst he is stuck with these players? He’s mainly experimented due to injuries and suspensions.

I’m not disagreeing with your wider point but didn’t NDombele, Sessegnon, Clarke and Lo Celso’s loan fee come to more than £74.6m?

Years' worth of accounts prior to starting a billion pound project. Total borrowing is something just short of £650m - where did the rest of the money come from?

What property has the club bought up recently?

It did but it was off set but the sales of Trippier and Janssen hence why we're having this net spend 'debate'.

This seems to have turned into a usual bashing of Levy/ENIC!

By going after Jose and the speed with which he was appointed demonstrates they are serious and FFS the time that he has had some of the expectations are way too high!

I forget about Trippier. Who is this Janssen fellow?

JK
Dembele £11m
Trippier £20m
Janssen £8.1m
Nkoudou £3.6m
--
£42.7m sales

I'm not wanting to be difficult. But selling Dembele and buying nobody at all HAS to be factored in.

I'm not even saying 'ENIC haven't spent any revenue.' They have. I agree net spend is not an indicator of a club's backing. But how much of our newly improved revenue we have spent IS a factor for a lot of fans. I'm suggesting it is greatly improved and I would say do your research as to where funds have been raised for the stadium and what subsequent funds are available. Is it enough. Obviously for some it is. For others it isn't, and we're being told from the horses mouth it's not going to change.

Since Mourinho took over only Liverpool have got more points than us in the league, Man City the same. We’d be third on GD if the league has started that week. That’s pretty impressive given the form the players were / are in.

The debate you are replying to is about summer spend not what you think should be considered in order to shift the goalposts, that's not how you calculate period spend and you know it so I don't think it serves any purpose to include the Dembele sale other than to fuel a certain narrative.

Yes, net spend is a ridiculous measure. It intrinsically suggests that selling lower and buying high is a measure of quality, as well as completely ignoring the costs of acquiring and selling a player (such as agent & sign-on fees when buying, and agent & 'loyalty' fees on selling).

Do you think we have improved under JM or are just lucky with results, as we still seem a shambles in defence and midfield, just getting lucky scoring goals which hides a multiple if sins..
I personally think we are no better off..

Under Poch we were playing shit and not scoring goals and conceding, under Jose we are playing a tad better and scoring goals but still conceding therefore we have improved.
