Personal opinion but I don’t super rate international appearances for judging players.i agree but for a player with his reputation, senior experience and mammoth transfer fee you would expect him to standout regardless. imagine me saying at the time that he's not a better player right now than kwp, onomah or some other fringe premier league player, i'd have been laughed off the forum. you only have to look at when we signed him people were expecting a player who can make an impact right away or at least in the not too distant future, which is a reasonable view to have given how much he cost. the truth is though he has looked just as lost and ineffective playing for england's u21s as he has with us. if he's struggling at that level then on what basis can he help the first team any time soon?
obviously we signed sessegnon mostly with the long-term in mind so if he's not making much impact right now then that's not a big issue but i'm not convinced he has this massive untapped potential just waiting to be unlocked either. we let edwards go for a bag of skittles and for my money he has far more to his game than sessegnon, at least as an attacking player.
Neither at youth level or men’s level.
I often find there’s little correlation to international success and club success. Too many flashes in the pan on the international stage or players who are amazing at the club and can’t do it internationally.
