Always been intrigued by Kalidou Koulibaly as he seems to have been linked with a big move every summer for the last decade. How come he's stayed at Napoli for so long? Does he just really have a thing for Neapolitan pizza or something?
I think Napoli have a tendency to ask for huge fees and are generally difficult to deal with. IIRC Koulibaly was always priced at around 80-100m and I guess no-one took the plunge due to his age?

Why was my Koulibaly post deleted?

Also who left that weird reason for it being deleted?

Seems a lot of money for a CB of his age but think they needed to address a real problem area for them and he will probably slot straight in.

Think a 5 year deal is a bit much though, as others have said on here, some CBs tend to slow down early 30s, happened with Jan and Toby. Short term though think its a good signing just think they will be regretting the long contract in 2/3 seasons.

£35m fee plus 5 years at over £300k a week. Absolute madness. Total deal well over £100m for a 31 year old with a sketchy injury record. On one hand you can call it serious ambition, on the other a massive financial risk. We saw with Toby and Jan how players can fall off a cliff in the PL in the early 30s.

Sterling is reportedly on £310k a week too.

Just when you thought they'd be cutting their cloth, they are spending more than when they had oil money! I wonder how they intend to sustain this? I assume they are expecting to sell/loan a large amount of fringe players.

And people were questioning why we weren't in for him. Well, there's your answer.

I think Chelsea’s signings are showing they aren’t going away anytime soon.

Koulibaly is perfect for the PL. apparently they also want Kimempbe from PSG. Sterling signed too. Ake is a good player.

They are going to have a strong defence next season.

we really need to get a top CB in. I like our business so far but where is the real first 11 improvement at CB?

I just don’t think we’ve improved our first 11 sufficiently in defence for us to be higher than 4th, maybe third absolute best.

What are we doing at CB?

Chelsea signing two elite ones and one good one, and we signed a Barca bench warmer on loan with no buy option ffs

Seems weird that we haven't been linked to kimpenbe

Chelsea are pretty desperate though so I bet they're massively over paying.

Koulibaly is going to be on over £300k p/w and Kimpembe is of a different profile to the type of CB we're after in that he isn't a progressive passer at all. He can play LCB, sure, but so can many players, that doesn't make them the right fit for Conte. It's easy to fall for the hype behind the big names but there's clearly a method to what we're doing and other clubs - especially big clubs - are always going to sign good players regardless of what we do.
