Digne appears to be made of glass so makes sense. Paves the way for Regi to Sevilla aswell. And they should have funds with Carlos going and Kounde potentially aswell.

Having funds doesn't seem to stop Spanish clubs offering piss poor money for players. Villareal have offered peanuts for LoCelso after making it to the CL semi finals (in no small part due to LoCelso's contribution). I bet Sevilla will do the same with a stupid offer for Reggie.

Perhaps it is the Spanish clubs who are right with the value of players and the PL clubs who have allowed player values to get out of control ?

Quite possibly, but the ridiculous hyper inflation of recent years started in Spain and now PSG have joined in. It's pretty difficult to sell anyone in Spain if it's not to RM or Barca though and I doubt RM will want Reggie back.

They operate like a seriously big club. Need a CB, so let's just go out and get the best one, without a care for sell-on fees or wages.

He's one of the best CBs in the world no doubt and built for the Prem. 3rd just got much tougher.

It's funny, everyone else is reading this as a coup for Chelsea but for me it was another case of Boehly struggling to get anything done, finding he is out of his depth and scrambling for a CB the wrong side of 30, paying EUR40m which is a lot but not enough that other big clubs can't match it, which makes me wonder why there isn't a huge tussle for him. On top of that they are turning away from Ake - seems to me more like an indication that they don't know what they're doing rather than a smart move.

But I am open to the possibility that I'm the one missing something

I may be an outlier, but I would have been disappointed if we had brought in Sterling rather than Richarlison.

Sterling is a quality player but he does my head in watching England. Most of his best work is off the ball. On it he's just a more productive Moura, although Moura would probably bag a few more goals playing at Man City too.

Grealish has played about 5% of the minutes Sterling has with Kane for England and still has much better chemistry with him. I think we got exactly the player we needed in Richarlison to compliment/cover Son and Kane. We do still need another creative type to compete with Kulusevski however.

Sterling is a pretty good fit for Tuchel's style however so I'm sure it'll be a good signing. So in a way we both got the player who suited us more. Getting Richarlison from Everton is being understated as a coup if anything.

Boehly is certainly going for big name players, similar to post-Fergie Utd. Time will tell if it pays off. I do think Sterling and Koulibaly will be successes FWIW.

Just why have we not even tried to sign this guy. Infinitely better than Lenglet is just baffles me.

Better at some things and worse at others. Lenglet has cost us peanuts and Koulibaly is 40m (?) plus huge wages for a 31 year old with a fair old injury record on a long contract.

Completely agree

Sterling's career is on a downward trajectory.

Richarlisons is on an upward trajectory.

Not sure i agree with that, Sterling is only 27 and a quality player. I think Richarlison will be great though, and is a much better fit for us at the moment.

Nothing seems to have changed at chelsea, still throwing huge amounts of money at every problem. Going to be a very tough league next season!

Im not sure Chelsea has strengthened. They have lost a few good ones at the back.
Not sure Koulibaly is a huge upgrade on Rudiger, to be honest and they also lost Christensen. Plus right now it looks like Lukaku for Sterling. I know they are not comparable.. but they haven't brought another attacker in yet).

We have so far not lost any player we would want to hold on too, and whe certainly have strengthened.

Good signing for Chelsea and one they needed, losing Rudiger and Christensen leaves Chalobah [23] Sarr [23] and Silva [37] If they were going to spend it needed to be at CB. But they are approaching the window differently to us they need to replace players, we're looking to add players. Still think we go big on one CB this window.

5 year contract for 31 year old Koulibaly.

Good signing for the here and now but they weren't even that financially reckless when they had an oligarch backing them.

Bound to be a good signing in the short term, but 5 years is v.long contract for a player his age.

Thiago Silva has proven how good some CBs can be deep into their 30s but many others drop off a cliff in their early/mid 30s. Vertonghen was top class then completely lost his legs when he was about 31.

Just listened to Ally McCoist on TS and agree with him. If Chelsea want to be genuine title contenders then they need to go out and buy big on a CF. Until they do that they won’t be close as Havertz is not good enough as a striker.

With our signings currently and potentially more to come I think it will be us and Chelsea battling it out for 3rd this season.

Didn't think they'd be able to match the quality, aggression and physicality of Rudiger - but of course, Chelsea always find a way.

Always been intrigued by Kalidou Koulibaly as he seems to have been linked with a big move every summer for the last decade. How come he's stayed at Napoli for so long? Does he just really have a thing for Neapolitan pizza or something?
