Maybe so, but you have to try with Youth, isn't that the whole point? We see potential and hope we can coach them to be good enough for the first team... some make it, some don't & football of all levels from grass roots to champions league teams all work on this policy, you have to take on a lot of potential to eventually get the polished diamond.

Its always a gamble, but hey, what if we'd said 'nah, we won't bother with Lennon because we've just bought Routledge'?

You have to take the risk if it's financially viable.

The problem with us is that we are a club that likes to invest in young players, but we are not s club that likes to play them.

But he's not a winger. That's like comparing Jenas or Ghaly with Lennon, they're totally different.

I rate him highly, but Lennon was different class when he moved to us.

good point but being so young he could quite easy make a name for himself on the left wing.

modric is a central midfielder by trade but spent most of his time on the left last year and looked a class act.

the thing with lennon is that i don't think he has improved a great deal since he has been at the club, still quick, still skillful and still can't cross.

delph already has more to his game imo.

That is just simply not true. Yes he had bad year the season before last, but his positioning, defensive awareness, team play, have all improved immeasurably, and in the last six months his crossing is noticeably improving IMO too.

I find it amusing that people are saying a 19 year old who has had one brilliant year in league 1 has more to his game than a 22 year old with 4 years premier league experience, 3 as a full England international, who has been the subject of interest from both Chelsea and Liverpool.

Delph may well be the chosen one, and he does seem to be very impressive, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Also, who here wants us to get him and draw leeds in the early rounds of one of the cups, give Modric a rest and play Rose on the left, Lennon on the right and Delph in the middle?

Yes please, as long as we win, if we didn't I'd never hear the end of it

Delph might be the cats pyjamas for all I know, but this just doesn't seem like a clever signing if we really are short on dollar. Is he ready to partner Palacios NOW? If so then I'm all for it, but if not then I don't see why we can't just see how Bostock and Parett progress whilst bringing in an experience leader for the meantime...?

Well it's not a case of buying Delph but not Vieira.

I think it would be buy Delph so he can learn from Vieira, because they are both very similar types of player.

Delph is more combative and athletic than Parrett and Bostock is more of an attacking midfielder.

Bostock looks pretty athletic from what I've seen... It just seems silly when we have 2 england under 19 midfielders at the club to sign another one when we don't have enough money to buy a regular centre forward. Delph might be mustard, but Bostock would have been playing in that Leeds team as well so who knows how he would have looked with competitive football under his belt?

Not necessarily, because Bostock isn't the same kind of player :p

I don't think we don't have enough money for a centre forward, more that we don't want to pay over the odds for an old player where we won't be able to recoup anything (crouch) and we don't want to give in to ludicrous wage demands for a limited striker (Huntelaar)

Fair enough good points there actually. I can't think of anything worse than paying double figures for Crouch. But for the kind of money Leeds want this guy would have to be in and around the first team this season, is he ready?

I think if Delph comes then Bostock will go out on loan for the season, perhaps Parrett too.

Both lads would benefit from playing regularly at a higher level than Academy games.

problem is it's still L1, hard to tell how a good a player really is given the level of the opposition - he's clearly too good for L1, but maybe ordinary in the PL or even the Championship....if we have extra cash, wouldn't mind spending a bit on investing in youth but we should be strengthening our first team as a priority. Will he really overtake jj/hudd etc next season? Even they would look world-class in a lower league.

Delph looks so Fab-ulous
Alan Nixon

Fabian Delph showed Tottenham why he is ready to take the big move up to the Premier League with a dazzling display against Rovers.
The young midfield maestro - a target for Harry Redknapp and watched by chief scout Ian Bloomfield - looked the part even if the deal depends on Leeds supremo Ken Bates lowering his £8million valuation.

i know it was only a friendly yesterday but delph and i quote my old man "was the best player on the park again".

i'm setting myself up for a big fall here but i believe he would defo push jenas for a starting place if we sign him.

I agree, but not sure Harry would. He would probably loan him somewhere, if not back to Leeds, then to Sheffield United or something.

With us having no reserves we have to do something with the youngsters who no longer are Academy age who won't get regular appearances for us.

I have never seen Delph play, but I hear he has potential. The price quoted seems a bit steep but then don't all transfer fees?

As I understand it, all we have done is pull out of the reserve league, because it was poor preparation. We will look to give our reserves games outside the league.
