What a twat Ken bates is.
He hates us, OK, but his club are in a dire financial state and for the sake of a week he could have got more money from Man City.
That may not have been good for Delph but it certainly would have been better for Leeds.
I don't buy all this "honourable club" stuff he's coming out with either I just reckon he's using the Delph money to pay off his latest lawsuit.

Incorrect.

Leeds now have no debt.

Not that I give 2 shits about Leeds but your post made it look like all was now rosey in the garden there and there are no financial issues. They may not legally have any debt now but the club still suffers today through its serious financial mis-management. Part of which is that they no longer have a ground which is their own, this was sacrificed along with plenty of other things.

Aren't City trying to buy the City of Manchester Stadium?

Yes they suffered terrible mismanagement, that regime has now gone. Ethically or unethically, Bates has now cleared Leeds United of debt, that's all I said in response to someone saying they are in a dire financial state - they're not, they're just trying to build from the bottom in a sustainable way, credit to Bates for that.

They may be, but it doesn't make my point any less valid, you don't 'need' to own your ground these days.

Don't Leeds have to find something by October to keep their training facilities? What about repurchasing their ground?
That fits my definition of dire.

Crikey, some people think we better throw the towel in now because we've failed to sign a League 1 player who if we're being honest most of us had never heard of 6 months ago.

Some people need a real sense of reality.

LOL! Legend10, its not a case of throwing in the towel because we missed out on a League 1 player, its just that Fabian Delph has been on many Premiership teams radars for a while now and he's been progressing very well, so its a shame we didn't manage to secure his services as he could've proved to be a useful asset - after all we already have other products of the Leeds system: Jonathan Woodgate, Aaron Lennon, Danny Rose!

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how he does at Villa.

I'm pretty sure it is Bates' intention for them to buy back their training ground and elland road at some point in the future, but that is because they are now of strong financial grounding and are able to consider this. Do you think the average club in dire financial situation could contemplate this? If leeds are in dire straits, then 90% of the football league are fucked.

Mmm, there is going to be some mighty pissed of creditors there, and rightly so!

To be able to wipe off so much debt, potentially bankrupting companies in the process and just carry on like nothing has happened is IMHO just plain wrong.

As I said before I couldn't care less about Leeds one way or another, but I think it would be good to see at least one of the major clubs in this country go to the wall. If its not going to be Leeds I'll keep my fingers crossed that it could be Newcastle.

It's really not that clever, it goes on all the time and you basically just do as your lawyers tell you to.

villa are closing in on signing sneijder from madrid.

he was initially thought to be going to inter on loan with an option to buy but madrid may want to sell him to villa after a bid of up to 20m euros from martin o'neills side.

By the way, From the few snippits I've seen of Delph, we missed a good thing there.

Can't say that I've seen enough to be sure, but the little bits I have seen he's already better than Ohara and would have been good to have in the squad. Seems strange we'd rather use our "youth" budget to purchase two more right backs doesn't it ?

Kyle Walker is learning his trade at RB, but apparently has played a lot of football at CB. Including some of his appearances for England U19.

With Delph, there's ITK claiming that Villa did agree to drop out of the race for him if we'd sell Jenas to them. Allegedly a deal was agreed, and JJ refused to go to Villa. Villa then reentered the race for Delph, offered him first team football this season, and he signed there for footballing reasons.

Of course the ITK may be wrong. And, yes, Delph may prove to be one that got away...

Villa have got a bargain I'm afraid.

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill believes Fabian Delph can go straight into the first team after a fine debut in the 1-0 win over Fiorentina.

Delph, who arrived from Leeds this week for £6million, was impressive in central midfield on Saturday and even visiting coach Cesare Prandelli hailed the youngster's display.

"I was very impressed by him," said Prandelli. "He has a great personality, he never lost the ball and always had an alternative."

O'Neill was just as complimentary, he added: "I thought he was great. He has those attributes mentioned (by Prandelli) in abundance. Is he an immediate replacement for Gareth Barry? Hold on. That would be asking a lot.

"Is he capable of becoming a really brilliant player? No doubt about that. He has a great attitude and Premier League ability. We don't have to wait and see if he can come through, he is knocking on the door now.

"He has played so many games for one so young. He is a player and the crowd have taken to him. And he can only get better."
