Just over £6m according to reports. As said above signing Delph would immediately negate all the hard work done by Livermore, Bostock etc and even Huddlestone.

No, bad luck. He's gone to a rival ffs - good luck will mean they do well.

I didn't say good luck to Villa, I said a polite good luck to the lad. He's a young kid making his way in the game and I certainly wish him no ill.

The thing captain birdseye said about the way Villa conduct their business sounds like a dig at Levy and the sheikh

The official Leeds statement suggests that Ken Bates is seriously pissed off at the other clubs after Delph, which would include us.

Nothing new there, then.

Of course, if we're prepared to match Villa's offer, it's up to Delph where he ends up. Unless Bates decides he wants to stick Leeds Utd's biggest asset in the reserves....

They could reject our offer even if it was £50m. By the sounds of that statement he's rejected other interest (matching/improved offers?) since they agreed with Villa.

Delph could say he wants to go to Spurs though ?

Bates has always hated us and if Delph wanted Spurs he could force it still as technically turning us down because of an old grudge is restraint of trade if we have matched or beaten Villa's offer

Yeah he could & that would definitely complicate things. I'd be very surprised if he did though. Can't remember if it was press or ITK but I read that he'd prefer a move to Villa anyway.

Also Kyle Naughton supposedly prefered a move to Everton...

It's exactly like Bent and Stoke or Hull.

If Bent sez "I ain't goin to Stoke" you blah blah blah Levy, then it doesn't matter what Stoke have offered.

By accepting Villa's bid, Leeds have established the market price for Delph.

If Delph now says "I ain't going to Villa", and we match their offer, then Ken Bates can't force Delph to go to Villa.

Bates could refuse to accept our offer and stick Delph in the reserves, but I suspect he needs the wonga too badly to be able to afford to do that.

I reckon Delph just wants to stay in the midlands. He's a young lad and that's where he's grown up.

To be fair, we've got piles of young central midfielders (including last season's Delph, John Bostock). Even if Delph is different class to them, there's a good chance of him benching or being loaned out with us. He probably fancies his chances of making the Villa team (who finished above us) quickly (even immediately at that price), and sees how Young's done there.

You'd have to be mad to take us over Villa to be honest, doesn't make me any less disappointed.

Young had almost a full season in the Premiership though

Delph doesn't even have experience of the Championship

Dammit, we've missed out! This is going to come back and bite us, just like Ashley Young.

How did not signing Ashley Young "bite us" - unless you're saying that it is Tottenham's obligation to sign every promising English player in the market?

He was a good player whom we let go to another club when they outbid us and then he developed into a better player. You may as well say that not signing Rooney when he moved from Everton to Man U "bit us". Or, for that matter, that Villa let us "bite them" when we signed Luka Modric last Summer.

We can't sign all of the good players, you know.

We were in advanced talks with Young though just that Levy refused to pay the extra million to close the deal so can't compare with Rooney who never had the slightest interest in us

He didn't say Leeds is in the Midlands, he said Delph grew up in the Midlands.

Did he?

He said Delph may just want to STAY in the midlands and that he grew up there. He's not in the midlands, he lives in Tadcaster and no, he grew up in Bradford.

You know this for a fact? How come there was never anything said to that effect at the time.
