If true, does that mean he's gone? Attacking your own fan is really inexcusable unless it's done out of self-defense.

We needed to buy a LB one way or another this January. If we sell him we could buy a legit LB instead of a squad player who is just temporary cover a la Gilberto.

Ive been thinking that since read about the incident. However we dont know what the "fan" said to BAE. Guessing is it must have been something bad to get him to react in the way he apparently did.

From A&C in the match thread.

I've just had a text from NOTW Nicdic saying:

Apparantly some fan mouthed off at BAE walking down the tunnel, BAE grabbed him by the throat and had to be pulled off him by Joe Jordan. The fan has now made a statement.

But remember, this is Nicdic and the NOTW.....So it might not have been BAE, might not have been Joe Jordan and might not have been a fan.:)

In a way I hope it was something really bad. I mean that in the way that I think people who give players the normal abuse are nobs but if Benny can't deal with that then he's got no business being a footballer.

So do I. But wouldnt totally surprise me if it was normal abuse you get from us fans after game like today. After all if reports are to be believed BAE isn't really a football fan its just a job to him!

Wasn't is Benny that said in an interview that he only became a footballer because his brother said he could make a good wage in it? Or did I imagine that interview?

Never read that one, only remember him saying he's got no interest in watching football as he plays it enough as it is. I have no problem with that.

Obviously Benny should have kept his cool and ignored the probable moron who was abusing him but I can understand why he reacted badly. We do have some grade A tossers who I'll loosely term 'fans'.

did gomes get into a verbal fight during the game with a fan?
Well he'd have to do something to pass the time.
If so what is going on with our players and fans?
If our players can't take the normal moaning (if it is just the normal stuff) then we have a problem.

Whilst it's hard to say the players should be expected to do so, it is understandable. No one should have to put up with it and having a go at an athlete at the top of his form wasn't exactly a smart move by the 'fan'. Should be banned from the ground.

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]Not bad for someone who never really liked football, and only considered it as a career after his brother told him he could become wildly rich.

Burning desire and raw talent may be the foundations for most professional footballers, but for Assou-Ekotto, working hard, staying loyal and listening to advice – particularly from your brother – is the way to get ahead in this job.

Having joined Lens as a 10 year-old, following in the footsteps of his older brother Matthieu, Benoît Assou-Ekotto finally got a chance in Les Sang et Or’s first team when regular left-back Lachor was injured early in the 2004/05 season. However, if Benoît had had his own way, he’d be somewhere else doing… something else.

“At 14 I went through a bad run with injuries and all I wanted to do was throw in the towel and get out of Lens,” he said. “But Matthieu persuaded me to stay and stick it out, and I’m glad I did. Lens is my team and my home.”
