As I said in the Dybala thread, here is another example of a player that we should be trying to buy now before any of the bigger clubs start bidding. Arguably should have been looking at him some time ago but it's only really this season that he's blown up.

Some will say it's a gamble but the reality is that EVERY player we sign is a gamble to some extent. You can never guarantee that players are going to pan out and that's the just the risk you have to take.

I'm watching the replay of the Lyon game right now on BT Sport and the comms have said that ALL of Lyon's players are in the shop window and I assume that is because of their financial situation as a club. Comm said that their players WILL leave. Lyon are known for producing quality young players from their youth system. Lacazette is one of them along with Fakir, Ferri etc. Lyon used to be a wealthy club iirc but I think something went wrong somewhere along the line and they had been well out of the title picture for the last few years as a result. This is the first season since they were winning leagues back to back between 2001 and 2008 that they have been looking like they might win the league.
If the commentators are right we should be pursuing this, exactly the type of striker we need.

Of Lacazette's 19 goals, only 4 have been scored vs opposition now on the upper half of the table (top 10).

We have scored 1 goal vs palace over 2 matches and struggle to score vs the likes of west brom and stoke etch so we could use some of that!

We'll probably end up resigning Defoe on a short term deal - I suppose at least he's a capable flat track bully and might actually offer some goals unlike Mr Soldado

I am not sure Defoe will offer much - he didn't in his last few seasons with us - people forget the smashing the ball from all areas, the poor link up play and the constant offsides.

He scored one league goal in his last season for us.

Yes. It is.

I reckon you'll find that it's Baldini's job.

There's no greater master of sell players than Levy, and any money will hardly go towards reinforcements. No value in selling either Kaboul or Naughton for less than a reasonable amount, as there's a risk involved in skimming down the defensive roster when it's in the middle and up top that we need to make changes.

We'll have to agree to disagree then.

Not for one minute do I believe that deals are not put passed Levy before any sort of final agreement.

IMO Levy decides when a player leaves and how much for.

Baldini is used for his contacts and his ability to network.

I am in no way anti Levy. He is what he is. He has been involved in some fantastic deals for the club but his stubbornness in demanding a certain price for players has also been evident.

Bentley was an absolute shambles. I worry that we'll struggle to trim our squad because he simply holds out for too much money.

We'll se with Lennon. Poch doesn't want or rate him, the club want to offload i'm sure and they'll be dozens of clubs that will be interested. No excuse to not sell IMO.
