Obviously money can trump that but to act like Liverpool aren't a known big club is foolish. But I agree money & trophies are the top two things but those basically follow each other along.
A big backhander to the agent is as important as anything. Liverpool paid 26m to agents in last year.

Unfortunately for him, his mom is ruining his career. The shenanigans are not flying at PSG and they wont fly anywhere else(well, except for maybe West Ham but there a comedy club to begin with). Good talent but horrible advice surround him.

Unfortunately it has got to the stage where the likes of Rabiot, Ozil and now many others can sign a 3/4/5 year deal worth 25-50 million £ or even €.

It looks to me the ambition side of things has come second to grabbing as much filthy lucre as possible and any honours from the game are a bonus.

A few years ago players wouldn't move to a club without CL football, now they don't care what competition they play in. Luxury players who don't mind pulling a sickie if it is a bit cold or raining.

I'd still throw everything we have at SMS. Lazio are known sellers and he's been racially abused (called a gypsy) by his own fans after a slow start to the season. Guy has all world ability and is the sort of player we need.
Yep, the expected big offers for him last summer didn't materialize, so why not make them an offer they can't refuse.

You make me sound like an idiot, which isn't hard. LOL.

I hope he gets his move - I wouldn't want to see him in a Spurs shirt. I don't think he is good enough.

ESPN saying he won't consider a move to us because we are "below" his level. I can understand that for a top top player but I would also think a top top player wouldn't put it in those terms, no doubt it could be his mum talking but either way it highlights an attitude we don't need. All that said I still don't rate him that highly, he certainly ain't the player he likes to think he is.

He has achieved little and couldn’t even make it into his National side for the World Cup. Delusions of grandeur and not what we should be chasing because of the impact he could have on team morale.

I agree, on the rare occasion that it might be beneficial to have a super star and run the risk of disturbing the equalibrium at a club the first prerequisite is that they are actually a super star.

It just feels like this was never on the cards. If he/his mum feels like that then that seems to put the lid on this thread.

Why anyone would want to rush such an infamous personality into a team that appear to be working for one-another and are again fighting for a Top 4 spot (relatively fighting above their weight IMO) is a fucking mystery to me in the first place.

Actually makes me wonder if he's highly rated in certain computer games...Football Manager/FIFA bias is sadly a real thing I believe.

Also superstars are not always pricks. All of ours that I can think of have been a credit to the team & themselves. Klinsman, Hoddle, bale, vdv etc ... Kane

For me the only reason is he is the kind of top class midfielder we need and the other probable top targets are out of our reach esp with high transfer fees expected for them.

Deschamps inherited a France squad torn apart by troubles during WC10. Some of the biggest talent (Ribéry, Evra, Anelka, Gallas, Henry) had run riot. The stories are sickening. Players from poor backgrounds branding the more middle class players homosexual (principally Gourcuff) and refusing to play if he was the key creative player (the « meneur de jeu »). They would refuse to run if he passed to them and in training would smack the ball at him and physically aggress hîm. Toulalan, Diarra and Lloris defended him against this vicious clique. Retribution was widespread - they were mocked for, among other things, reading. So many bad stories from this time that none of the above mentioned players should have any moral standing in our eyes.

The coach was powerless.

Deschamps, among other things, met with Lloris, and realised that none of these players should play for France again. Respect, sacrifice for the team and decency are prerequisites to be selected and just as important as talent.

The french team have seen steady improvements in results since and even the big stars (notably Mbappe, Griezmann and Pogba) showed great humility throughout the World Cup.

If Deschamps won’t pick you and you have talent - the reason is clear.

The reason Rabiot isn’t a WC winner isn’t because of his attitude or personality (that’s true of others such as Benzema). The reason is France has an abundance of talent at 8 and he was behind Pogba and Tolisso.

But since then he displayed an attitude that means he will probably never play for France under Deschamps and (given the talent coming through) may never play for France again. That won’t matter at Barcelona who will tolerate primadonnas. It matters in a team where character matters.

I like to think that includes Spurs.
Wow I’ve just only now read this post & that’s crazy. I’d heard about the weird shit they got up to (principally some blackmailing another with a sex tape) but that’s really crazy!

I wonder how Lloris managed to captain, as a native French from a high family etc
