oh there's a plan. people just dont like it. Id get used to it, because its what we've got till August at least. I agree its not pleasing on the eye, but if we can grind out enough 1-0 victories to qualify for CL again Jose will have succeeded.
Actually that is a good point mate there is a plan but people don’t like it but going forwards there doesn’t seem to be much of a plan it’s like this is the defensive shape then try and break on them or work it out yourselves

We've got more chance of out scoring teams than grinding results even without Son and Kane. Toby Verts are vastly over rated Davies hmmm Aurier's strengths going forward.

Lloris

Aurier
Sanchez
Tanganga
Sessengon

Lo Celso
Winks
Ndombele

Bergwijn
Alli
Lamela*

*Moura if Lamela not fit.

Just keep playing this team injuries apart

Lamela isnt fit now, thats why he doesnt start. And if you open up the depleted attack we will ship twice as many goals against good teams.IMO.

Jose complains about having attacking players unavailable but we conceded 4 goals in the last 2 PL games and one of those teams (AV) is really struggling, so its a bit hard to point to our attack when our defense is a problem too.

I’m genuinely baffled reading all the comments dissecting our play under Jose

We were delivering relegation form under Poch for 12 months

this is a busted squad!

When he got the sack most said it was his fault even after he repeatedly said we needed to seriously invest in the squad.
Now it's the squad fault. How convenient

I think it was clear that we needed to change a lot of players, but most of you turned on Poch, after all that he did. Now the squad is mostly to blame, but Jose is doing himself no favour with how he sets up the teams. I don't buy what he says that this is the best that we can. I wouldn't be the first team that plays without a center forward. We can do a lot better than this with the current squad.

What happen to Jose assistant? wasn't he suppose to be this progressive coach

No idea, hopefully that wasn't one that came from the same Mourinho PR channels as "he's been learning a new style of play in his time off". All we see is him being Jose's little lapdog in the dugout each week.

But our defensive players are available, they're just not very good.

We had a few seasons of under-investment and gone from having the youngest squad in the league to having numerous ageing players.

Turning this squad around this season was never going to fully happen and without Kane and Son it becomes extremely tough.

This is a frustrating period but I don't think putting the blame on Jose and making out he is a has-been who needs to leave is a correct analysis or solution.

I wanted Jose in before Poch left and I stand by that. Part of the reason is I believe he's an intelligent manager who will identify our issues quickly and get short-term results. He has taken us from 14th to 5th.

But he needs the summer to bring in additional players and get the team playing cohesively. He needs to be realistic with targets and aim for players who are available and will come to us.

I usually like to give managers some time but with Jose I expect quicker results. Next season will be the time I start to properly critique our play. At the moment he is just doing the best with what is at his disposal and I don't believe many, if any, other managers would have done better.
I believe Jose is the right manager because this is a club that needs to be taught how to win. We can get there but we cant get over the top.

However, I dont think he is cut out for the situation we find ourselves in. He isnt an attcking coach. He is a coach that needs a striker and fit attackers to let them sort it out up front. That is never going to work with the options availble to us as we dont have a striker. We have some ball playing, passing CM’s and a few AM’s that could play as a false 9 but not well. We need to be playing on the front foot utilizing the CM’s and FB’s to get the ball into the attacking 3rd and hopefully providing service for Lucas, Dele, Bergwijn, etc. Playing on the backfoot means we are not utilizing the majority of the assets we have to the best of their abilities. Also, our defensive players are not very good at the back no matter what we do. To balance that we need a good attack.

couldnt disagree more. he's the perfect coach for us at the moment. like you said, defensive minded and there are enough players still to defend well. we just arent doing it.

Because it is very rare for a manager to come in and completely turn things around mid-season in such a short space of time.

I don't mind criticism and critiquing of situations but so much of it is unrealistic.

In the spurs TV post game interview Jose says not having a target man stops us from playing long balls when the opposition high press, and stops us from scoring when they low block and swarm the box ultimately meaning we are in an impossible tactical situation. This for me is the issue. If you take Liverpool, which are unfortunately the current pinnacle of attacking football, they have been playing without a recognised striker for seasons and don't struggle. Firmino coming into the club as an AM and isn't a tall player. My issue with Jose has always been how ridged his tactics are, it can't all revolve around 1 player to target. At this point I understand why Jose is struggling because that is the one style he knows. But in this day and age teams need to be more dynamic.

Again, I'm not writing him off and he obviously needs to be given next season. And any team would struggle loosing two of their best players. But I do worry about his tactical rigidity in the modern game.

whilst i can’t disagree with any of this, long balls can also be in behind/down the channels, which Salah and Mane offer to Liverpool.

Unfortunately, the players up top we have left can’t do that either. Lucas seems incapable of making the runs, Stevie seems quicker with the ball than without it. only Alli knows how to make those runs, and he’s woefully out of form.

Please forgive me overall we were winning with the pervious manager BUT that last hurdle where Levy was suppose to step in and back him in the market never happened.

Mourinho will need serious money to be spent by LEVY to get anywhere near good enough. That hasn't changed ( I want Mourinho to be brilliant again but he'll need money)

When he got the sack he had to go. He’d given up and I couldn’t blame him

Levy lost trust in Poch/stopped backing him/hoped he wouldn’t have to spend the amount of money Poch told him he needed to on the squad/thought his manager was a lot more of the problem than the squad was

Jose was brought in by Levy thinking he could sort this mess out which has been created by his lack of investment and hoped it would give us some chance of reaching the CL for next season

Levy now knows what a clusterfuck he’s helped create and Jose now knows the squad he thought he was walking into is intact nowhere near what he thought it was and what Poch was telling everyone it was

So basically Poch had to go because Big Dan wasn’t going to back him and if we don’t have a huge clearout in the summer and bring in 4/5+ then Jose May as well pack it in too

Interesting on BT sport how crouch GudJohnson and Rio said son and Kane out is still no excuse to play so negatively and Gudjohnson and crouch as attacking players said they’d absolutely hate to play in a team who plays like this and when they’ve both done it before at Iceland and stoke respectively that it made them depressed as they come off the pitch exhausted feeling like they’ve not played football, doesn’t bode well and possibly a reason why Jose’s squads go sour as players just get sick of playing in this style these days.

But I'm not sure about if that cynical kind of football was his original plan..? Or if it is just his plan under these circumstances right now? When he arrived he said that we were going to play pretty much the same kind of football like we did under Poch.

maybe but Id argue if we had either Crouch or Gudjohnsen in their Spurs versions now we'd be in better shape than we are. Look at what we have:
Moura - one goal every 4 games over his Spurs career
Lamela - one goal every 6 games over his Spurs career
Alli - one goal every 3 1/2 games comes out at the head of the class
Bergwijn - 22 years old and been at the club less than a month
Lo Celso - the wild card I guess

I dont think he wants to play this way.
