Where is this Townsend sale stuff coming from, can't see him going anywhere. Bounced Lamela out the team and doing 'ok' a the minute, why all the rumours?

Townsend is bang (BANG) average. Only gets in our side because he's got pace. We need rid of him and get some players are are both technically great and blisteringly quick. Reckon he's scored more penalties for us than goals from open play.

Sure he's had a few good games for us, but he's old enough now to be far more consistent.

Unfortunately we have too many of those! I could name 6-7 I'd clear out before Townsend.

With reports we'll pay Ade's wages to loan him out, we may as well release him a long with Kaboul.

I can see us taking a small hit but still getting reasonable money for Vlad and Capoue.

Funds coming in for the likes of Lennon and Townsend would be a bonus and very welcome as we'll get arse raped over Soldado and Paulinho. Selling the likes of Townsend will go a long way to helping us break even.

Releasing them would mean paying off their contracts. It may be better economically to loan out for the remainder of the contract and pay a percentage of the wages.

Nice pithy reply, but having watched every Spurs game for a couple of years now I don't think many of us can be impressed by Townsend. I am right behind loads of the young lads but Townsend just does not get the assists or the goals you need from a wide forward. He also works nowhere near as hard as Lennon or Lamela without the ball. I'll support the team and players to the hilt, but they need to do the job. In two years Townsend just hasn't shown enough. I'd love to be proved wrong as we do need a fast, intelligent, aggressive winger.

a little bit from trix..

As THFC told THST we are looking to be buying youngish players in the £10-15mil bracket in the same way we bought Berba Bale, Eriksen and Modric etc. In the past we have moved for these players one a time(because that is what budgets have allowed). From what I understand though if we can get the wage bill reduced to accommodate them, there would be no reason for us not to pick up 3 or 4 players in this bracket at one time. Perhaps if we can bring a good crop through together they might just see a reason to hang around? Instead of leaving because they are the stand out players for the club and know at best they will only be replaced.

There's always risks with loaning them out, say they get injured and have to come back to the club for treatment etc. With them coming towards the end of their contracts, the financial hit won't be to bad... get shot and move on. It will also show other players with a bad attitude that the club won't put up with their behaviour.

If we can get the wage bill reduced enough is obviously the key.

But sounds good.

Not knocking trix but doesn't he get his info from his agent mates? How would they know what our budget is?

Reducing the wage bill has EVERYTHING to do with this summer. It's imperative we get Ade, Capoue, Kaboul, Lennon, Paulinho, Bobby, and Vlad off the wage bill. That would probably free up £300k/wk at the very least! This is a time when Levy shouldnt haggle over the fees as hard as usual. Get them off.

Wrt getting them to stick around, hopefully with guys like Kane, Bentaleb, Rose and Mason already brought through doing very well, and with good players like Eriksen, Lloris, Verts, Dier and Lamela here already, players see we have something special going and decide they want to be apart of it.

The wage thing has been backed up by others, if I am not mistaken. But agents do typically have at least an idea of clubs budgets. Also, doesnt he get some info from the poch side of things?

Years ago £10-15m would get you the likes of Berbatov and Modric, these days it will get your distinctly average players from around Europe. If we're willing to spend some money I would rather we pillage the championship of their young talent (Hughes (Derby), Mowatt (Leeds), Redmond (Norwich), Bryam (Leeds), Wilson (Bournemouth) etc.

Not necessarily we managed to get Verts, Lloris, Eriksen for less than £15m. They are out there.

I'd like to see both. I'm pleased to see us returning to buying a young, promising English player again in Alli, but there are economical buys out there which would work very well as long as we correctly identify the right ones per need/weakness.
