As has been said, it's all about having more than one way to go about beating teams. We won't necessarily need this type of player if our terrible movement in and around the box improves, as we probably have the players to find passes if this happens. It wouldn't hurt to have one though.

Wasn't there ITK a while back saying our plan was to buy an experienced striker and a youngster? I assume that was Villa and another player in the five to ten million price range. I guess plan B is to now spend a similar amount of money on a single player - Benteke - who is still young but ready for the first team.

fair point but he never took us forward. if we are going to spend 20m on a player at the stage we are at, it can't be just about being able to make/break even on the signing. If we are going to spend 20m on a player, then they need to be the kind of player that can move us forward as we are only going to spend 20m once if that. Paulinho for example for 17m is a next level player. I'm still unconvinced Benteke is all that much better than an in form Ade.

The thing with Bent though is that he was more effective in a lesser team, I guess the extra time and space gave him more chance of scoring and in lesser sophisticated teams hitting a through ball forward against a lighter defence and it worked well. Moving to a team that generally has a number of opposition teams setting out to defend deep he struggled not getting the time or space.

We would have lost money on Bent had we not gotten a percentage of sell on and that he then did really well and sold at a big fee. Of course it was a clever move to get that added, but iirc the initial sale was £10 mill which would have resulted in a considerable loss on top of having a striker that really didn't work well for us during his time

Villa don''t want our rejects. They're building a young side on low wages. Hudd does not fit the profile.

3: Confine myself to a warning that it really ought to stop
4: A combo of 1&2 aka The Win Double

If Siggy got the game time Dempsey got he'd of scored as many goals as him! Dempsey offers little to the team hes not creative and if he doesn't score hes a passenger! He works hard fair enough but I would sell him in a heartbeat!!
