It's a very big week for Tottenham Hotspur FC isn't it, 1 more week to find a striker that will take us to the next level, Then the decision on the OS friday, Big things could happen this week, or both could be epic fails.

Enough with the Crouch talk!

He isn't playing well at the moment.

Let's not forget that the goals he set up for VDV were against lesser teams, Villa.

I don't remember it working against United, Chelsea or Arsenal.

We've also only scored two goals in the last 3 games which is poor

I must say that although I check this thread about 10000 times per day I don't really get drawn into the frenzy too much BUT, if ever something was bloody obvious it is that we need a decent striker and I will be seriously concerned about DL and HR if we don't get one.

Our lack of a decent striker is literally killing our season, in relative terms, and is affecting almost every aspect of our play. We are forced to play to the flanks too much simply because we have no real threat down the middle. Our cm's are under pressure all of the time because we have no real out ball forward. We're not scoring enough goals. We struggle to keep it tight because we have to play so many attacking players to compensate for our lack of firepower. I could go on.

The way I see it is that DL has paid big money in the past for players who even in our wildest dreams were not nor were going to become world class, so what is the problem in paying a few more million for clearly better players?

We could perhaps have bought a striker by now, would they have made a difference at Newcastle or at home to the mancs? Might we have secured 6 points instead of 2? How much money will those points cost us come May?

I know it is an over simplification of the process of buying a player, but for crying out loud this is a massive opportunity for us, one that may not come around again any time soon of we lose some players in the summer due to not finishing in the top 4.

We need to sort something out and soon............

Not really, ever increasing sounds that OPLC will delay the decision on the preferred bidder until the February board meeting and even if they decide this month, they will continue negotiating with the other party in case the "winner" pulls out.

But I agree it's a huge week in the "we need a new striker" scenario.

Good post and I agree. I will be gutted if we fail to bring in somebody....the implications could be massive.

Warnock as a backup would be a very decent signing, especially if we are looking for cover until the end of the season. Any LB we would be looking at would surely just be backup for Benny, so what else are people expecting as a backup?

Sounds like we're involved with every Bindipper transfer. Levy must really hate Comolli to muddy up his waters like that.

And seriously, when have we ever made a serious signing early in the window, Modric aside? I expect the end of this month to be very interesting.

And i thank Adiepf to finally cure me of my internet porn addiction and make me an ITK one.

Good post, and I full agree with the bit in bold. Bentley is the one that comes to mind. I will never understand why we were prepared to spend that amount of money on a player like him...who was very good at the time, but absolutely pointless when we had Lennon playing in his position...and playing well.

I don't know why so many are confident that we are going to sign a striker. It was obvious that we needed a striker in the summer, at a point when we were at our most attractive as a prospect. Only a very, very late VDV signing painted over the cracks.

My biggest worry is that despite all of Levy's efforts (and I'm sure he is always trying to work in the best interests of the club), it may well be the case that we have simply reached our limit financially with the current owners. I do genuinely love the way the club has been run in recent years, but it is at decisive moments like this that clubs need to be able to push on to the next level by blowing other offers out of the water.

How often do teams have press conferences for signings these days?

Not very often, unless you're Newcastle... then you have an open stadium wankathon when you sign an over the hill ex-england striker.

Obviously you can never really know but I would have thought that he will be told that Pool's chances of playing in the cl any time soon are very slim indeed.

This. They could put Mourinho or Guardiola in charge and still not be getting near CL for another couple of seasons, without massive investment in that squad, which just isn't happening. Even then they still have to compete with the current top and 4 and us.

VDV must be shit then, seeing as a manager of Mourinho's calibre didn't want him and a manager of Redknapp's did...

This. It's amazing how people are so blind as to how football really works.

Milito was a fairly average striker until last season, and is quickly heading back that way. Yet under Mourinho, and with the attack being built around his style of play, suddenly he becomes one of the best striker in the world for a season.

In all fairness mate, you've been saying that for avout 7 months.

In all fairness the transfer window has only been open 3 weeks since then.

It's a very big week for Tottenham Hotspur FC isn't it, 1 more week to find a striker that will take us to the next level, Then the decision on the OS friday, Big things could happen this week, or both could be epic fails.

I'm not sure we could consider either as epic fails.

The OS wasn't even really on the agenda a few months back, we have spent a lot of time and resources already on the current site re-development, and i'm sure the majority of fans here would be no less happy to stay in tottenham.

As for the striker - it's hard to epically fail in the january window, there are so few less players available than the summer.

And 'end scene'.

Looking forward to a cracking week. Simply because it's perfect timing to strengthen Friday's decision with a great transfer.
