Well regardless of whether it is true or not, there is no way Levy would pay anywhere near that much for someone in a position where we have more than adequate competition. Especially when it is obvious to every man, woman and basement gimp that we need a new striker.

But Redknapp absolutely loves him. You just know he would be on Redknapps A3 list given to Levy. I think if Jenas goes and there will be takers for him then Levy will do the deal

So Arry loves Diarra, and Mourinho's always had a soft spot for Jenas

I can see a deal good for both parties here

I'd be happy if we got Diarra, but not for that sort of money. Unless Jenas goes for £16m I can't see it happening. Which is tantamount to saying it won't happen.

If I was to guess as to why we haven't got Suarez yet it's because Carroll was our number 1 target. So its no surprise that it has gone on this long. If we've finally given up on Carroll then maybe now we'll push through the Suarez deal.

This. It's amazing how people are so blind as to how football really works.

Milito was a fairly average striker until last season, and is quickly heading back that way. Yet under Mourinho, and with the attack being built around his style of play, suddenly he becomes one of the best striker in the world for a season.
I'm pretty sure Milito has always had a decent reputation. He went from Spain back to Italy with Genoa I think. He did really well and was transferred to Inter. He looked pretty dangerous against us as well.

That's a pretty good guess, 'one in' (I usually think of it as Juanin..which I suspect isn't even a name). The complex details of brinksmanship at work will no doubt involve assessing the likelihood of transfers happening, and the bids for other targets being adjusted accordingly.

I certainly hope that's the case, and I'd expect to see more decisive transfer movement very soon if it is.

i think the main reason we havent got suarez is becoz of ajax holding out for more money...

Oh I'm sure they are holding out for as much money as they can get, but as 'one in' was implying, maybe we were not showing all our cards, or going all in, until we'd seen how the prospects for our preferred target would turn out.

If itk is to be believed, we've clearly maintained a level of interest throughout, as far as Suarez is concerned. If we've been keeping our options open, and most of our options have disappeared, we'd be more likely to meet the demands for Suarez.

Please also bear in mind that my views on transfers are usually the carefully crafted combination of alcohol and optimism.

I dont think the really big deals will happen till deadline day. Ajax will hold until until the last minute to get the best price. From the sounds of it us and Liverpool are interested but the valuations are still apart. A compromise will be reached on 31st of January, but for who and how much Ive no idea.

well they specifically said they wouldn't sell him on deadline day so...

i tend to believe them too. they don't have any real need to sell him. he isn't unhappy there, his contract isn't about to be up, they aren't in a dire financial crisis.

I agree 100% with this view (with or without alcohol/optimism). However I would guess that, even with his reputation for brinkmanship, DL would want to close a deal by mid-week in order to avoid the possible repeat of a Fabiano/Arshavin nightmare. I certainly hope so as I am not sure that my nerves will take much more!

I can see something like that happening. Although I recall the various trustworthy stories about “Berba-day” when we went to Ajax and they would have accepted our bid for Huntelaar except that they couldn’t get a replacement so told us to do the Frank Bough. I have no idea if their financial situation now makes it more or less likely to do the same this time around.

Mate, you do know this is Daniel Levy, right?

He lives for deadline day. This is his favourite day of the year. Sod birthdays, forget his anniversary and fuck Christmas. This is Daniel’s Day. Remember three years ago we had Pav tied up weeks before the day but only announced it on Aug 31. Why? Because Levy wanted to. He wanted to fuck with you, fuck with me, with all of us, fuck with the selling club and the media.

At this very moment, Daniel Levy is huddled in a snow-packed cottage like Rocky Balboa preparing to meet Ivan Drago. He is pulling snowploughs through a 12-foot drift, he is opening pasta sauce jars with his eye socket, he is extinguishing fourteen-feet-high flames with his own farts, he is personally creating a full-scale replica of the Olympic Stadium out of toothpicks so he can shove it up Karren Brady’s arse. He is, not to put too fine a point on it, ready for action.

But if you think he’s going to sign a player before January 31 just because you’re feeling a bit antsy… I feel bad for you son.
