Well, I'm sure he's keeping it low key. It's not like he's going to be unveiled in a press conference in Saudi Arabia or anything.

Good riddance. All this talk about him being a good ref is bollocks. The guy always loves to make a show of himself and likes to make sure the game centres around his decisions rather than the actual teams and players. You only have to look at the twatish way he waves his arms around like a baseball umpire to realise that.

This whole thing just goes to show that he really does think that HE is the star of the show, and that HE deserves to be the one earning big bucks. So off he goes to take him and his family to live and work under the yoke of a vile and brutal regime in the desert.

Enjoy it while it lasts you arrogant blind twat.

No offence but this is all just bollocks, he's a very good ref, you dont get to referee the Euros Final and Champions League final if you're shit.
All referees are waving their arms about nowadays, Riley,Oliver etc, they're all at it, obviously been directed from above.
And if you remember the horror show that was Uriah Rennie, now that was a shit ref who made it all about himself.
To blame him for Mendes goal before goal line technology came in is ridiculous, the lino should be the one giving that.

When the initial shock etc of this dies down, I hope somebody in the press is brave enough to report this for what it is - a very clear vote of no confidence in Mike Riley from the PGMOL's biggest asset.

It's a real shame, him along with Michael Oliver are so much better than any other refs in the league

I've always thought he was a good ref, always on hand to explain decisions to players. Of course they're never going to get it right 100% of the time. As someone already said, you don't get to ref those high profile games by being a chump.

If he was getting paid as much here as he will be in Saudi Arabia he wouldn't be going.

The games between the big teams in Saudi can be really intense. Let's hope he doesn't lose his head.

Whatever he has been offered would very likely still be on offer in a few years' time - if not in Saudi Arabia then elsewhere. The only reason he's started considering offers overseas is because he doesn't get on with Mike Riley and has no faith in how PGMOL are managed. If the refs themselves are disillusioned with PGMOL then how can players, coaches and fans have much faith in them?

The standard of refereeing overall is terrible, it's just a case of the biggest turd floating to the surface. Top jobs go to knob heads every day of the week, it doesn't mark Clattenburg out as any better than Oliver, Dean, or Phil Dowd. It's just a matter of his face fitting.

The guy has always been an arrogant wanker, and there's no way Oliver gestures anywhere near as much as him, it's all about being the centre of attention for Clattenburg. Oh, and just because he's not as shit as Uriah Rennie, doesn't make him the best ref in the world.

Exactly and I bet you people are still blaming him for the Pedro Mendes no goal that happened over a decade ago in which the lino should have flagged anyway lol

Reffed our match against Boro magnificently recently.

No, being handpicked to referee some of the the biggest games in world football (Euros final, CL final) by the guy who is widely renowned as the best ref of all time (Collina)...pretty much does though.

What a load of old bollocks. Who the fuck are you to tell someone what they should do with their career?

Maybe, but he's voluntarily just ended his career as a top level referee. He won't get selected for the World Cup refereeing in Saudi Arabia.

I'm in the don't like Clattenburg camp.

I think that when he's good he's very good but when he's bad, he's very very very very bad.

PS: Like VERY bad :D
