Think it should just be hosted in Uruguay alone to mark the 100th anniversary to be honest.

That's one solution to it. Europe was really due to host it (especially Western Europe) but the whole idea of it not being in South America for the centennial wasn't great. It's an interesting solution. I'm not entire sure I hate it.

Do they have the stadium and infrastructure for a 100+ match 48 team tournament in just Uruguay?
They managed 32 teams in Qatar but 48 in Uruguay is probably a bit of a stretch.

For me it feels wrong that Europe is hosting this at all, what would the big deal really be to let Spain, Portugal and Morocco have 2034 and Asia/Oceania have 2038, just moving the cycle one step? 2030 should've been entirely in South America to celebrate the centenary IMO.

This creates a big logistical mess for anyone who wants to watch the tournament and every broadcaster across the world that wants the rights to it. It makes things a hell of a lot more expensive for everybody.

Not entirely sure how having 3 games in the southern hemisphere and those 6 teams (plus team staff, fans, media, etc.) then flying to the northern hemisphere for the rest of the tournament is keeping FIFA on its "path to climate-friendly" tournaments.

It is good that the World Cup centenary is marked in this way. As for hosting the whole tournament there... I don't think these countries - even combined - are capable of hosting a 48 nation World Cup, economically and logistically. in South America, only Brazil could do that, and we've just been there.

It’s an absolute joke but then after where the last one was held and seeing who’s readying their brown envelope for 2034 nothing surprises me any more.
If anyone hasn’t watched it yet watch FIFA uncovered on Netflix, such an eye opener.

They are doing this so they can award Saudi Arabia in 2034

Yeah I was talking to a friend about this yesterday. They've literally just done the Middle East which is part of Asia/Oceania, and they're doing North and Central America in 2026 with Mexico, USA and Canada.

2030 just sounds like a whistle stop tour of Europe, Africa and South America just to cross them off the list and go back to the Middle East. The rest of Asia/Oceania won't get a look in either. Anyone from other countries with a stronger footballing pedigree in that region who are hoping for a World Cup won't see one for another 50 years at least.

I'm guessing UAE or Kuwait are lining up for 2044 or something. If their human rights records improve then I'll be fine with it. Otherwise it's just a case of FIFA sacrificing morals for brown envelopes.

Fucking shit****s at FIFA get their way again.

This is genuinely worse than Qatar bribing their way to it, and yet not a sound is being made.
